On February 2, 2016, the Supreme Procuratorate announced that Ma Yong, the former deputy secretary-general of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee (department level), was suspected of accepting bribes and abusing his power. The case has been reported to the Chenzhou City Procuratorate of Hunan Province. The Chenzhou Intermediate Court initiated a public prosecution.

After investigation, the prosecutor finally charged Ma Yong with bribery and abuse of power. According to the prosecution’s accusation, the defendant Ma Yong abused his power and illegally decided to return 5.7885 million yuan in land transfer fees when he was the mayor of Yiyang Municipal People’s Government. When he was the secretary of the Yiyang Municipal Party Committee, he abused his power and caused a special project of the central finance 3.6 million yuan of funds were used to pay corporate debts, resulting in heavy losses to national interests. From 2007 to 2013, the defendant Ma Yong took advantage of his position as mayor of the Yiyang Municipal People's Government and secretary of the Yiyang Municipal Party Committee to seek benefits for others, and illegally accepted property from units or individuals alone or together with his wife Li Wanxin (handled in a separate case).
