A survey on the development status and prospects of Chongqing’s hotel industry?

Just as more and more Chongqing hotels want to flex their muscles, local hotels are in short supply of grassroots management talents. According to statistics from the training center of the city's tourism bureau, in the next two years, there will be a shortage of nearly 1,000 grass-roots hotel managers in Chongqing, accounting for 1/3 of its demand.

According to Director Du of the Municipal Tourism Bureau Training Center, there are nearly 30,000 hotel employees in Chongqing, including less than 2,000 grassroots supervisors. "According to the current development speed, the talent gap for grassroots supervisors will reach 1,000 people in the next two years." In particular, there is an acute shortage of grassroots supervisors such as floor supervisors, assistant lobby managers, and laundry room supervisors.

Relevant people from the Municipal Tourism Bureau said that the rapid expansion of hotels has led to a large lack of grassroots supervisors in hotels. According to statistics, before 1997, there were only 17 star-rated hotels in Chongqing, including only one five-star hotel. Now, the total number of star-rated hotels in Chongqing has reached 151, including 11 four-star and five-star hotels. .

The rapid expansion of Chongqing’s hotel industry has greatly increased the hotel’s demand for grassroots supervisors: in 1997, one or two hundred grassroots managers were enough, but now and in the future, the demand will exceed a thousand.

The lack of hotel management talents leads to frequent talent turnover. According to hotel management consulting companies such as New Oriental and Swan, it is not uncommon for junior managers to change jobs 3 to 5 times within a year.

The shortage of grassroots management talents in Chongqing’s hotel industry is mainly caused by the lagging concepts of hotel owners. Director Du analyzed that hotels below three stars (including three stars) account for 85% of the total number of hotels in Chongqing, but two-thirds of the hotel managers would rather spend millions of yuan to renovate hardware facilities than spend tens of thousands of yuan to invest in talents. training. This situation is particularly prominent in district and county star hotels.

It is said that at present, most of the lower-level managers of hotels are almost all masters and apprentices. This gap in professional training blocks more people from becoming talents. It is reported that by the end of October this year, the gap in Chongqing hotel vocational training is expected to be filled. The Chongqing Tourism Industry Vocational Appraisal Institute will join forces with New Oriental Hotel Management Consulting Company to launch the first professional training class to train hotel management talents in batches.
