When did Beijing start building Universal Studios?

Universal Studios was built in Beijing in 2014.

1. On September 25, 2014, with the approval of the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the application report for the Universal Studios project in Beijing.

2. On September 17, 2019, Universal Beijing Resort officially announced that it will officially open in 2021.

3. On October 12, 2019, Universal Beijing Resort officially announced for the first time the seven major themed scenic spots that will be settled in China.

4. On October 17, 2019, Alibaba Group and Universal Beijing Resort reached a strategic cooperation to jointly create a digital benchmark for the global theme park industry by promoting the digital operation of the park.

On September 1, 2020, the main structure and theme park of Universal Beijing Resort have been capped, and the hardware construction is expected to be completed within the year. Universal Beijing Resort includes Universal Studios Beijing theme park, Universal CityWalk Beijing, and two resort hotels. At the main entrance of the Universal Studios theme park, Universal Studios' landmark giant globe-shaped building is under construction and is expected to be completed within September.

Xu Liping, Vice President of Government Affairs of Beijing International Resort Co., Ltd., introduced that Universal City Avenue connects theme parks, parking buildings, public parking lots, subways and other facilities. It will be launched in 2021 with theme parks and two A resort hotel opened at the same time. This avenue has 24 stores, and will also gather various first stores and flagship stores, becoming one of the large-scale business districts of Beijing’s “first store economy”.
