Nanshe Village Ancient Building Group

Nanshe Village was established in the late Southern Song Dynasty. Today, a large number of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are preserved, including 25 ancestral halls and more than 100 ancient dwellings. It is one of the most famous villages in Guangdong. A provincial cultural relics protection unit, it has been declared a famous historical and cultural village in China and is in the process of being declared a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The village is centered on a pond, with numerous ancestral halls on both sides of the bank. The lanes are winding and quiet, with densely populated dwellings and ancient charm. The ancient banyan trees are whirling, the branches are luxuriant and lush. The village retains a large number of exquisite stone carvings, brick carvings, wood carvings, gray sculptures, ceramic sculptures and other ancient architectural components, which have high historical, artistic and scientific value. A large amount of surrounding farmland has also been preserved, maintaining a fresh pastoral style.

The ancient building complex in Nanshe Village is different from the "Hakka Wai" and "Chaoshan House". It represents the characteristics of the water towns in the Pearl River Delta region. Each dwelling is a single family, called a "family temple". ", there is his own well and granite alley in front of the "family temple". Each house's granite alley is separated by a small waterway. The most distinctive building is the "family temple", which is mostly a masonry archway-style building with four pillars, three bays and three floors. The building is on the top of a hill, with brackets under the eaves, and beautifully carved wood carvings on the forehead. Hundreds of houses are scattered and intertwined, shining with classical charm among the dense trees. The wood and stone carvings of animals, flowers and birds on the gate tower of the "Family Temple" are all lifelike.

These ancient building complexes that integrate temples, water houses, and ancient wells not only retain a relatively complete Ming and Qing culture, but also become a rare basis for examining the living conditions of early water town residents in the Pearl River Delta. , has extremely high historical and cultural relic value and development and utilization value.
