Weizhou Island has mixed reputations. In fact, as long as you go at the right time, you will see beautiful scenery every step of the way.
Weizhou Island can be said to have mixed reputations. Some people complain when they go there, saying that the island is commercialized, everything is expensive, it’s not fun, etc. Is it good or not?
Several years ago, I wanted to go to Weizhou Island. But every time I planned to go, it was either too hot or it was typhoon season, so I never made it. This winter, I have a little free time, and a trip to Weizhou Island is finally on the agenda. After playing, I found that Weizhou Island in this season is neither cold nor hot, the flowers are blooming, and everything is just right.
***5 days and 4 nights on the island. I rented a battery car and drove around the island. In order to watch the sunrise, I drove against the wind on the dark mountain road with the morning light; the redbud flowers on the roadside had fallen petals all over the ground. I wanted to pick them all together and take a literary photo. The traffic policeman on duty carefully helped I watched the passing cars; I met the smallest Thean Hou Temple in history at an unknown beach; when I passed through various villages, I was greeted by trees in full bloom; the navigation guide also specially took me to a place where only one battery car could pass. Sometimes I turned a corner and rushed to the back of someone's house. A group of old hens walking were scared by me and they flew around. Occasionally, the navigation would make mistakes. Once it guided me to the entrance of a military camp, I braked hard. , the soldier guarding the gate looked at me confused and asked me what I wanted to do. When I figured it out, we both laughed at the same time...
All the time on the island was pleasant. .
Arrival: I feel that Weizhou Island may be an easier island to reach in China. It takes about 80 minutes by boat from the passenger terminal in Beihai City to the West Point Pier of Weizhou Island. There are four boats running between Beihai and Weizhou Island every day. Many cities have direct flights to Beihai. If your flight arrives before noon, you can also buy a ferry ticket to the island that afternoon without any delay - of course, Beihai itself is worth staying for a night or two. , Old Street, Silver Beach, and Qiaogang Style Street are all good destinations.
The fare for a boat traveling between Beihai and Weizhou Island ranges from more than 150-200 depending on the sailing time. I bought a 150 fast boat, which takes 80 minutes to arrive. During the voyage, I have to sit in the cabin and not go out. If you like sightseeing and enjoying the sea breeze, you can choose a slower boat and walk to the deck, which is of course more expensive.
For those who are worried about seasickness, choose a seat at the stern of the boat. You can also buy seasickness medicine and take it half an hour before sailing.
Accommodation: There are many B&Bs on the island, distributed in every village, and the prices are affordable; there are also better and more expensive hotels. But after four days, I think the most convenient places for tourists are Shiluokou and Dishui Danping. Reason: It is a scenic spot in itself and a must-visit place to watch the sunset. There are many inns and restaurants in the village.
I booked the B&B. I only booked one night at first. When I arrived, I found that the room was bright, clean and close to the beach, so I immediately booked another three nights. The proprietress immediately readily promised that she would send me to the pier for free when I left the island.
Food: Some people say that Weizhou Island is very expensive. But actually after playing it, I think it’s pretty good. Food and beverages are about 30 more expensive than in downtown Beihai. It is said that this is because daily necessities on the island are transported from the city. Tourists can go to the market to buy seafood by themselves. Every inn and restaurant provides processing services. The processing fee for each dish ranges from 10 to 25 yuan depending on the recipe.
Every day I ride a small battery, go to the vegetable market in Nanwan at dusk, buy two vegetables, and come back to have the innkeeper process them. If there are three or four people together, you can buy a few more dishes and have a great time.
Transportation: The most convenient way is, of course, to rent a small battery car and drive it by yourself! There are rental shops on the street, and a car costs 60 yuan/day; each inn also has several cars for guests to rent, and the price will be 10-20 yuan cheaper than outside. I rented a car for three days and traveled all over the island.
Weizhou Island is very suitable for battery-car travel. The longest distance from one point to another is about 6 or 7 kilometers, which is not strenuous at all.
If you don’t know how to drive a battery car, you can also rent a tricycle or sightseeing car. The price is about 100, and the driver is responsible for taking you to all the places you should go.
Most places on the island are quiet and there are few people. Sometimes when you are riding a bicycle and turn a corner, you will be greeted by a large dense banana forest. You will feel that the entire island belongs to you.
Necessary expenses: at least 300 yuan for a round-trip boat ticket (depending on the speed of the boat trip, ranging from more than 150-200 yuan for a single trip), 49 yuan for the island ticket (the current price of 49 yuan is half price). Both boat tickets and tickets can be purchased in advance on the official account.
Must-visit attractions on the island: Crocodile Mountain Scenic Area, Dishui Danping (watch the sunset), Shiluokou Beach (watch the sunset), Colorful Beach (watch the sunrise), Shell Beach, Shengtang Catholic Church. If you have a more adventurous spirit like me, you can also add Blue Bridge, Muya, and Nanwan Old Street.
A few pictures first.
Crocodile Mountain Scenic Area, Lighthouse.
However, Crocodile Mountain is actually suitable to visit in the morning, because it is located in the south of the island. After three o'clock in the afternoon, the sun is blocked by the cliff, and most places are in shadow, making it difficult to take pictures. Not outstanding. If you come earlier in the morning, the light and shadow will be better.
There are many artistic and fresh spots on the plank road, which are very suitable for girls to take pictures. By the sea and the wind.
The Shengtang Village Catholic Church was built with the island’s unique coral stones, shells, etc. It has a history of more than 100 years and is also the most popular spot on the island. The church is open all day.
Shengtang Village relies on the Catholic Church and is also very lively. There are several small and fresh shops on the street, which are good for taking pictures.
Shell Beach, it is said that if you come at low tide, you can pick up many beautiful shells.
The shell beach is uneven, so be careful where you step.
Colorful beach, sunrise.
The colorful beach at low tide, and the sea-eroded rocks that emerge from the dew, are colorful and quite interesting.
The Blue Bridge was originally a channel used by oil companies to transport oil. It is now abandoned and closed. It is a dangerous bridge and is forbidden to enter. You can only take pictures from a distance.
There is a beautiful B&B near Blue Bridge. You can see the sea from the room. Standing on the beach, you can instantly feel the Maldives.
Muya. It is a closed scenic spot on the island, so it is inaccessible. You have to go down to the beach through a path that is almost invisible as a road. Being alone is really a bit scary. But I went down anyway.
The most beautiful thing here is the textured cliffs with large sea erosion.
The best time to visit the famous Dripping Water Danping is in the evening, when the tide is low, so you can watch the sunset.
There was no sunset on the day I arrived, but the strange rocks on the beach were also very nice.
Nanwan Old Street. Some people say that Nanwan looks like Kenting.
I drove a battery car here and drank a bowl of sugar water.
In the small shop, a whistled version of "Scarborough Fair" is placed low, and paired with the beach, waves, and fishing boats in front of you, it makes people feel a little chaotic, confused, and a little sad.
I passed by the Ocean Sports Park when I went to the seafood market to buy food, and the photos turned out to be surprisingly beautiful.
Sunset at Shiluokou Beach.
Shiluokou Beach in the morning is quiet and there are few people. Facing the sea, the entire beach is yours.
After seeing these pictures, do you want to go to Weizhou Island?
TIPS:
When going to Weizhou Island, it is best to avoid the typhoon season in summer and autumn, otherwise it is easy to get trapped on the island and not be able to get out. November may be the most suitable season. It is neither cold nor hot. The daily temperature is between 20-26 degrees, which is very comfortable.
Summary:
Apart from being a bit more expensive, there is nothing wrong with the island and the people are also good. In the words of a friend, everything can be wonderful on Weizhou Island as long as you don't care about money. After playing it, I was convinced.
