History of Dongmen Pedestrian Street in Shenzhen

Shenzhen Dongmen Pedestrian Street is the oldest business district in Shenzhen. As the saying goes, "you have been to Shenzhen until you reach Dongmen Old Street". People in Shenzhen are used to calling it "Old East Gate". The old street was formed in the middle of Ming Dynasty, also known as "Shenzhen Old Market". In the past, Dongmen Commercial Street was mainly a number of stalls and vendors, mainly engaged in low-grade goods. Now there are not only many large commercial buildings in the block, such as Mao Ye Department Store Plaza, Mong Kok Shopping Center, Tianlong Commercial City, Sun Hung Kai Commercial Center, Zhonghai Commercial City, Luohu Commercial Center, Zhongwei Commercial Plaza, World Mall, Shenzhen Department Store Plaza, Kowloon City, Guangdong and Hong Kong Commercial Center, etc., which constitute the largest commercial district in Shenzhen with the most concentrated shops and the most complete variety of goods. The new "East Gate" ranks among the national 18 important commercial streets. According to Luo Zhiwei, secretary of the Party Working Committee of Dongmen Street, told Shenzhen Business Daily that Dongmen Pedestrian Street has an average daily flow of 500,000 people and a holiday flow of one million people, making it one of the most crowded business districts in Shenzhen and even the whole country. The new "East Gate" has an annual turnover of 4.5 billion yuan.

Most people call it East Gate for short. The east gate extends in all directions, and the surrounding landmark buildings include Pengnian Hotel, Sunshine Hotel, Lido Hotel, International Trade Building, Sun Plaza and Jin Guanghua Plaza. It's not far from Wang Di Tower, Book City and Vientiane City.

In the past, the largest wholesale market here was Baima Market, which was divided into three buildings: Hua Yao Building, Baohua Building and Minghua Building. It has developed rapidly in recent years, not only in Ximending in the direction of Shaibu Road, but also in Dongmending in the direction of Pengnian Hotel. Wholesale and cheap stalls are on the first to third floors, and there are all kinds of professional clothes on the fourth and fifth floors, and most of them are high-grade clothes on the sixth floor.

There are many two-yuan stores and nine-yuan-nine stores here. Shopping around will definitely make you value for money.
