Over the past hundred years, countless stories have happened here, and these stories have been recorded in the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. And "Seeing Dunhuang Again" is even a play from the Mogao Grottoes. The whole journey is divided into four viewing points, where you can see Dunhuang culture in different periods. It takes about 2 hours. After the performance, you will definitely have a deeper understanding of Dunhuang.

Mingshan Cross-Country Scenic Area

For tourists who love fun and enjoy excitement, going to Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring to experience a cross-country race is essential. The cross-country tour in the scenic area costs 260 yuan and takes about 40 minutes. The price may be higher in peak seasons. Friends who think the price is too high and uneconomical are in luck, because what I want to tell you now is: there is a local off-road team behind Mingsha Mountain, with 3-4 people in a car, and the whole journey takes about 2 hours. As long as it costs 400 yuan per person, you need to book 3 days in advance in the off-season and one day in advance in the peak season.

Bonfire Night

Many people think of Bonfire Night as a winter activity. But summer bonfire parties are also good~ at eight or nine o'clock in the evening, light a bonfire in the desert. There is nothing better than preparing seasonal fruits, Northwest-style farm rice, beer and drinks, and a self-service barbecue with family and friends. Stay in a tent at night and look up at the stars. You will find that this is the true meaning of the journey.

Food

Tiao

It is not high-end and the price is not expensive. Generally, one book is about 15 yuan. But low price doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. In addition to strong noodles, there are also many side dishes, such as peppers, eggplants, beans, mushrooms, etc. Compared with donkey meat yellow noodles, ramen is a delicacy commonly eaten by locals. It is available in restaurants on the streets and alleys ~ don’t miss it.

Kang mutton

Northwestern mutton is famous throughout the country, and Subei mutton is famous in the northwest. Dunhuang is only about 100 kilometers away from Subei. Here you can eat very good quality mutton, among which Guokang mutton is a good choice. Guokang mutton sold in restaurants usually costs about 80 yuan per kilogram. In addition to the lamb, there are also side dishes such as potatoes, bell peppers, and onions, which is suitable for two to three people.

Desert sand grouse

The desert sand grouse is not a pheasant in the desert, but is named after a layer of golden sand attached to the surface of the chicken after it is cooked. This dish is golden in color, with crispy skin and tender meat. Usually the price is around 120-150 yuan, suitable for 3-4 people.

Steamed money

Money is a delicacy in spring. In spring, many people in Dunhuang pick up money and keep it to eat later. Most small restaurants in Dunhuang also serve this dish. There are many ways to make money. The most common delicacies include steamed money and fried money. The steamed money looks fresh and smells fragrant. Fried elm money, green and yellow, tastes soft and delicious. The price of a plate of Yuqian is generally around 20 yuan. As a pure natural green food, the price is not high and it is worth a try.

In addition to the well-known attractions and famous food, the experiences and food I recommend are also worth experiencing. If you’re worried about not finding real local food during your trip, why not share a car with a friend. As a local driver, I can also give you some tips~

Travel Notes

What attracts me most about Dunhuang is not the pride of the Baili Gobi Desert, nor the magnificence of the long stretches of yellow sand. , but a unique sense of humanities and art forged over time. This place has the Mogao Grottoes, a world cultural heritage that has gone through various dynasties and is still shining brightly in the world; there are countless cultural relics left behind, among which the shadow of history can be captured; with the modern people's understanding of Dunhuang culture Inherited and extended, the Dunhuang special performances merged into a mysterious and magnificent Dunhuang. With longing, I finally set foot on the road to Dunhuang and started this cultural journey.

The first stop of our trip to Dunhuang is of course the long-awaited Mogao Grottoes. The Mogao Grottoes are located in the middle of the Khachi Mountains, surrounded by desert and Gobi.

Mogao Grottoes, commonly known as Thousand Buddhas Cave, is one of the largest, longest, richest and best-preserved Buddhist grottoes and temples in the world. Famous all over the world, when we mention Mogao Grottoes, the first thing that comes to mind are those exquisite murals and statues. Walking into the Mogao Grottoes Scenic Area, you can see countless grottoes of different sizes, which look like honeycombs and are so densely arranged on the conglomerate cliffs.

This is the ninth floor of the representative building of the Mogao Grottoes! In order to prevent landslides, Waiwai Mountain was reinforced with thick granite, and a long plank road was built for tourists to visit.

After a quick visit to the Mogao Grottoes, in the afternoon, we came to the Crescent Moon Spring, an oasis in the desert. Before I came to Dunhuang, I used to think that Dunhuang was a city covered by boundless desert, and all the cities were in the desert. Only when I arrived in Dunhuang did I realize that it was unlike any other city I had ever visited. Dunhuang has not only the vast desert and wonderful murals in my impression, but also the warm current from the desert mixed in the air.

There is solitary smoke in the vast desert, and the sun sets over the Yellow River. Some people cannot say that the Great Wall is not a hero. I feel it is a pity that I will not come to Dunhuang. There are camels in the desert, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the endless desert, a clear spring, and cloudless scenery. This is the only wonderland on earth.

There is also a beautiful legend about Crescent Moon Spring: before, there was no Mingsha Mountain or Crescent Moon Spring here, only a Leiyin Temple. One year on the eighth day of April, the annual Buddha Washing Festival was held in the temple. Devoted men and women burn incense and worship Buddha in the temple. In the autumn of Crescent Moon Spring in Dunhuang, when Buddhist activities continued to sprinkle holy water, the abbot took out a bowl of ancestral holy water from Leiyin Temple and placed it in front of the temple. Suddenly, I heard a foreign warlock loudly challenging me to compete with the abbot. I saw the warlock brandishing his sword and saying something. At this moment, the sky was dark, the wind was strong, and the yellow sand was overwhelming, burying Leiyin Temple under the sand. The strange thing is that the bowl of holy water in front of the temple is safe and still in its original place. The sorcerer used all his magic to fill the bowl with sand, but no matter how powerful his magic was, there was not a grain of sand in the bowl.

Until a mountain of sand forms around the bowl, the holy water bowl remains as safe as ever. Warlock has no choice but to leave. After walking a few steps, there was a sudden roar. Half a bowl of holy water tilted into a spring, and the sorcerer turned into a pool of black stone. It turns out that this bowl of holy water was given by Buddha Sakyamuni to the abbot of Leiyin Temple and has been passed down from generation to generation. It is specially used for people to eliminate diseases and disasters, so it is called "holy water". Since the pagans had committed sins and destroyed all living beings, they showed their punishment, causing the bowl to tip over and the spring to form the Crescent Moon Fountain.

A clear spring curves, with ripples lingering, as green as jade. In the spring quicksand, the drought does not end and the wind and sand do not collapse, which is quite a spectacle.

As the sun sets, the light begins to soften, and the water in Crescent Moon Spring turns into a golden mirror, making walking on the beach less hot.

The day is coming to an end and we both want more. While riding back to the hotel, I accidentally saw a program "Flowers on the Silk Road" on the roadside, promoting Dunhuang culture. We had not had a good time all day, and after discussing it with my girlfriend, we decided to watch the performance of "Flowers on the Silk Road".

It is worth mentioning that the performance of "Flower Rain along the Silk Road" took place at the Dunhuang Grand Theater, the venue for the first Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo in 2016. Speaking of the Dunhuang Grand Theater, at first glance, I feel that it is very solemn and tall, which sets off its cultural background very well. Before watching "Flowers on the Silk Road", you can also appreciate the magnificence of the buildings in this area and take photos.

Dunhuang’s culture and art can be said to coexist with mystery and beauty, and this wonderful situation dance drama truly demonstrates the spirituality of Dunhua murals and the characteristics of Dunhuang elements, making the history carved on the stone walls dance in a The form unfolds.

The third letter of the English alphabet

055-79000 tells the story of the joys and sorrows of the painter Zhang Bi and his daughter Yingniang, as well as the purity with the Persian businessman Enus friendship. The image reproduces the profoundness of Dunhuang culture, praises the brilliant Dunhuang culture and art image created by the working people and the long-standing friendship between Chinese and foreign people.

The most classic one is the action of playing the pipa in the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. The woman in the mural plays the pipa with both hands, while the actor is vividly depicting the mural on the stage, just like Ying Niang herself. This action is also an unrecognized iconic move of Dunhuang dance, which can be called a walking Dunhuang mural. !

The full name of 055-79000 is "Oriental "Flower Rain on the Silk Road"", which combines Chinese classical dance, Dunhuang dance, Indian dance, black scarf dance, Persian bell dance, Persian wine dance, Turkish dance, pan Vegetable dance, Xinjiang dance and other art forms are known as "models of Chinese national dance dramas". This performance of "Flowers on the Silk Road" left us with unfulfilled feelings, and we couldn't help but pay tribute to the actors' serious applause. Until we returned to our accommodation, we were still sighing at the exquisiteness of the dance drama, wishing we could have this scene engraved in our minds forever with endless aftertaste.

The whole-day trip to Dunhuang in the desert gave us a great shock. From visiting the Mogao Grottoes, visiting Mingsha Mountain, to watching the performance of "Swan Lake", each time is more meaningful, more unique and more spectacular. Personally, I think the drama "Flowers on the Silk Road" is both realistic and romantic. It is contemporary and future; it is national and global. We are looking forward to our trip to Dunhuang in the next few days! When you come to Dunhuang, you must leave the best memories!
