2. The school was formerly known as Zhanjiang Radio and Television University, which was founded in 1980. It implements the management model of two brands and one team with Zhanjiang Amateur University founded in 1979. In April 2001, the Zhanjiang Municipal People's Government decided to merge Zhanjiang Financial Adult Secondary Vocational School into Zhanjiang Radio and Television University. In April 2008, the Zhanjiang Municipal Government approved Zhanjiang Radio and Television University to add the brand name of Zhanjiang Community University.
