Qingdao Self-guided Tour Guide
1. Time
It is best to choose July, August and September, when the water temperature is suitable for going to the sea, Ocean Festival, Beer Festival, Cartoon and Animation Festival is opening again - it has been two years since our family went to the Cartoon and Animation Festival and we went crazy. We had fun and food.
2. Equipment
Map - a must-have for self-guided travel. It is recommended to buy it at a roadside newsstand far away from the station. It is cheap.
Sneakers - The roads in the island city are definitely not as smooth as you think.
Umbrella - an umbrella can be used for both sunny and rainy days.
Swimsuit - this is something that nude swimmers don’t need to think about.
Xie Li Stop - it can be fierce! ! ! A strong guarantee for eating seafood!
Bank card - remember to have money in the card, a lot of money...
3. Accommodation
Qingdao’s scenic spots are basically on the front coast, so No matter whether you choose Home Inn, GreenTree Inn or Shangri-La...you must remember one thing: the hotel must be west of Zhongshan Park in Shinan District.
Our family has a special liking for youth hostels, and we would like to recommend one: Qingdao Obervit International Youth Hostel, No. 21, Guanxiang 2nd Road. There are four reasons for recommending this hotel:
First, because of convenient transportation. The train station is in the west, and the rental price is no more than 10 yuan. The long-distance bus station is in the north, and the rental fee does not exceed 25 yuan.
Second, it is not far from various scenic spots. For example, Zhanqiao, Pichaiyuan Snacks, Zhongshan Road Commercial Street, Underwater World, Lu Xun Park, Xiaoyu Mountain, Christian Church, Coastal Boardwalk, Catholic Church, No. 1 Bathing Beach, etc. It’s too far, and they also rent bicycles – but it’s weird to ride a bicycle in a hilly place like Daocheng.
Third, the hotel itself is picturesque, cultural and romantic. The hotel is located in Guanxiang Mountain Park, Qingdao City Center Observatory, overlooking the entire Qingdao scenery, and the hotel is surrounded by ancient historical buildings. There is a large astronomical telescope in the hotel. The stone house in front of the hotel is the origin of China's national altitude. The height of Mount Everest is calculated from here.
Fourth, it is cost-effective. The hotel has standard rooms, ordinary rooms, triple rooms, and beds for multiple people. Standard rooms cost about 100 yuan, standard rooms cost 150-160 yuan, triple rooms cost 130-140 yuan, and multi-person rooms cost 30-40 yuan per bed. Simply looking at the price, it may not be the lowest in the island city, but considering the above three points, it can be said that the price/performance ratio is quite high.
Friendly reminder: The hotel recommends calling to make a reservation first, because rooms are tight during the peak tourist season.
4. Introduction to scenic spots
(1) First, let’s talk about the official ten scenic spots in Qingdao
1. Feige Huilan
Qingdao Bay Scenic Area. That is the trestle and the Huilan Pavilion at the top of the trestle. This is a must-visit place in Qingdao. Built in 1933, it is a traditional Chinese building with double-story octagonal cornices and 24 columns. There are many legends such as Zhanqiao Moonlight Night, Feige Tingtide, Changhong Yuanyin, Jiege Yiran... It is said that it is especially beautiful during the spring tide in autumn.
There is a Zhanqiao Bathing Beach to the west of the Zhanqiao.
2. Qinyu Floating Lanterns
Qingdao Bay Scenic Area. There is a small island that reaches into the sea. It is called "Qindao", or "Little Qingdao" or "Qinyu" because of the sound of the piano and sesame playing on the shore of the waves. There used to be a strange lily on the island, which was very valuable and was called "Qingdao Lily". But now it seems that it is gone because of environmental pollution... There are many green plants on this island, so it has the reputation of "Qingdao Dripping Green", but now due to environmental damage I guess you have to get a discount... When Qingdao was a German colony, the Germans built a white lighthouse on the island, which emitted a red beam of light every night. Zheng Zhenduo seemed to be talking about something, but I can’t remember the details... It is recommended to take a closer look during the day. At night, stand on the Huilan Pavilion on the trestle and look at the distant scenery.
There is a naval museum not far from here, which is worth a visit for military fans. There is also a marine tourist pier, where you can take a yacht and enjoy the coastal scenery from a distance.
3. Huibin Tidelang
Huiquan Bay Scenic Area. Huiquan Bay is the most distinctive bay in Qingdao, formerly known as Victoria Bay. The most famous No. 1 Bathing Beach is right here. It is famous for its clear water, clear sand, calm waves, and beautiful reefs with red and red shapes. The No. 1 Beach is indeed the most worthwhile bathing beach, but there are too many people. There are so many, so many...
To the west of the No. 1 Bathing Beach is the Underwater World, which is definitely worth a visit, but the tickets are not cheap. There are also the Seafood Museum, Qingdao Aquarium and Lu Xun Park.
4. Yushan Haiyue
Huiquan Bay Scenic Area, north of the underwater world. Xiaoyu Mountain is a hill on the front coast of Qingdao. There are trees and pavilions on the mountain. The most famous one is Chaochao Pavilion. The most beautiful one is to watch the moon at night during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
5. Red Mansion Sunset
There is Signal Mountain to the northwest of Xiaoyu Mountain. It is a good place to watch the sunset. Under the sunset glow, you can see the famous historical building Yingbin Hotel and the Three Gorges Building on the south hillside. Silhouette of the red building in the style of a torch. The Guest House is a German castle-style building with a European royal style. It is said to be "the most magnificent building in the island city". It was originally the official residence of the German Governor, commonly known as the "Admiral Building". Mao Zedong stayed here when he came to Qingdao.
6. The beauty hides the hidden dangers
The Taiping Bay Scenic Area. Commonly known as "Badaguan", the road names here are all named after the passes of the Great Wall of China, such as Shanhaiguan Road, Zhengyangguan Road, etc., so it is called Badaguan. Yu Dafu once said that this is the first summer resort in the East. There is the second bathing beach and the "building of all nations". The so-called "architecture of all nations" refers to a wide variety of garden houses with styles from various countries. They are all left over from the colonial period and are very exotic. If you take photos here, those who don't know may think you have traveled to various European countries.
7. Taiping Tianyin
To the north of the Taiping Bay Scenic Area, on the top of Taiping Mountain in Zhongshan Park, is the Qingdao TV Observation Tower. There is a cableway up and down, and it is the highest point where you can overlook the entire Qingdao. "Tianyin" refers to the tower's daily broadcast of television programs to the city. Our family personally thinks this attraction is ridiculous.
8. Floating Cui Liudan
Fushan Bay Scenic Area. There are May 4th Square, Qingdao's iconic sculpture May Wind, Music Square, Sea Fountain, and Olympic Sailing Competition Venue.
9. Donghai Yiying
South of Fushan Forest Park, Donghai East Road. It is a sculpture park with an open sculpture art group called Donghai Yiying. Our family is not interested in sculptures or anything like that, and we have never seen them. It comes from the myth "Jingwei Reclamation", which says that the little bird named Jingwei built a garden around the East China Sea, and the Shandong Peninsula was filled in by it over thousands of years.
To the west of the sculpture park is Qingdao Polar Ocean World, which has a dolphin show. Those who have never seen it can take a look. It is quite interesting.
10. Jinling Zhuzhu
The easternmost part of Qingdao is Laoshan District. Century Plaza was originally located in Jinjialing, where the original residents of Qingdao lived. In recent years, Qingdao has developed its eastern part and many large squares have been built. When the sunset is bright, you can take a helicopter and look down from the air. These large squares are like a string of pearls scattered in the world, which is called Jinling Zhuzhu. Our family thinks this is ridiculous, and helicopters are extremely expensive!
To the south of Century Square are the racecourse and Qingdao International Beer City, both of which are high-consumption places. Further south is Shilaoren Beach.
(2) Add other places that we think are worth visiting
1. Two churches
The Catholic Church, namely St. Michael’s The church, No. 15 Zhejiang Road, is very much like the Hagia Sophia. It has huge rose-shaped glass windows, towering twin towers, and four bells. It is the largest Gothic building in Qingdao.
There are many Christian churches, including one near Guanxiang 2 Road Hotel, but I think the best one is the one at No. 15 Jiangsu Road. It is a German castle-style building with a 39-meter-high time clock on the top of the church. The bell tower offers a view of the island city, and there are various Western-style buildings surrounding the church.
2. Laoshan
It is highly recommended to climb this mountain! If it rains a little drizzle on the day of climbing, climbing Mount Laoshan in the rain will be even more amazing!
Laoshan Mountain has been known as the "Fairy Cave House" and "The No. 1 Fairy Mountain on the Sea" since ancient times. Historical records indicate that both the First Emperor of Qin and Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty visited Mount Laoshan, and Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty once sent people into the mountain to refine the elixir of longevity. Laoshan is a Taoist culture. At its peak, it was known as having "Nine Palaces, Eight Views and Seventy-two Nunneries". Among them, Taiqing Palace was built in the late Tang Dynasty, Taiping Palace and Shangqing Palace were built in the early Song Dynasty, both with a history of more than a thousand years. Throughout the ages, many literati and celebrities have come to Laoshan because of its reputation, such as Li Bai, Su Dongpo, Wen Zhengming, Gu Yanwu, Zheng Banqiao, Pu Songling, Kang Youwei, Yu Dafu and so on.
Groups to Laoshan are canceled every day. It is recommended to contact the hotel to join the group, which is safer. If you want to go by yourself, take bus No. 304, get on the bus at Zhanqiao and get off at Taiqing Palace. There must be a group at Taiqing Palace, just follow any one.
3. Former Residences of Celebrities
There are Confucius Memorial Hall, Tianhou Palace, Lao She’s Former Residence, Kang Youwei’s Former Residence, Shen Congwen’s Former Residence, Hong Shen’s Former Residence, Zhu De’s Former Residence, Yiduo Building, Princess Building, and Huashi Building. Wait, a former residence has a story or even several stories. Friends who like humanities and have enough time can spend a whole day visiting them one by one, which will ensure you gain a lot.
4. Surrounding islands
Tianheng Island, Zhucha Island, Lingshan Island, Zhaitang Island, Daguan Island, Xiaoguan Island, etc. Watching the scenery, eating fish, fishing in the sea, playing with birds... is also a pleasure.
