[ Edit this paragraph] The origin of Zhuhai
Zhuhai is located in the southwest of the Pearl River estuary, so it is named because it is located where the Pearl River empties into the South China Sea. Before the Tang and Song Dynasties, the coastal line of the Northwest River Delta was located in the north of Wugui Mountain (now in Zhongshan City), and Zhuhai was a remote island scattered outside the Pearl River estuary. In 221 BC, it belonged to Panyu County in Nanhai County, Panyu County in Han Dynasty, Dongguan County in Jin Dynasty to Chen Dynasty, Baoan County in Sui Dynasty and Dongguan County in Tang Dynasty. After the Song Dynasty, due to the prosperity of salt industry and silver mining industry here, Xiangshan Town was set up in Shanchang Village. In the 22nd year of Shaoxing (1152), Xiangshan County was established, which belonged to guangzhou fu, along the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. County was established in 1953, city in 1979 and special economic zone in 198.
There are many legends about the origin of the place names in Zhuhai, but the interpretation given from the geographical point of view should stand up to scrutiny. The sea area between Tangjia and Lingdingyang in Zhuhai was called "Zhuhai" by local residents in ancient times. In the Tang Family Tree, someone named it "Tang Zhuhai" (Yongle period of Ming Dynasty). In the "School Song" of Tangjiasanfeng Primary School in the early years of the Republic of China, the lyrics were "Zhuhai in front and Goose Peak in the back". It can be seen that this sea area has long been called "Zhuhai". Therefore, when Zhuhai was established as a county, it was called "Zhuhai" because this area was located at the sea of the Pearl River. Most of Zhuhai originally belonged to Zhongshan County. In 1953, some coastal areas and islands were set aside from Zhongshan, Dongguan and Baoan County to set up Zhuhai County, and the county seat was located in Tangjia Town today. In 1958, Zhuhai County was merged into Zhongshan County. In 1961, the organizational system of Zhuhai County was restored and the county seat was located in Xiangzhou. In March, 1979, it was approved by the State Council to withdraw from the county and build a city, which is a provincial city. In 1983, Doumen County was included in Zhuhai City.
Zhuhai Special Economic Zone was established in August 198, when its area was only 6.81 square kilometers. After two adjustments, its area was expanded to 121 square kilometers. At present, Zhuhai has jurisdiction over Xiangzhou District, Jinwan District, Doumen District (formerly Doumen County) and High-tech Zone.
