Biechu's Annotation Translation
⑵ Rot: describe the brilliant flowers. Light and bright: one is "light".
(3) and: one is "only".
(4) Farewell sound: refers to farewell songs. Ouyang Xiu is broad-minded. Although he is in adversity, he can still enjoy himself everywhere. The last two paragraphs of his Drunk Pavilion show that he enjoys pleasure with the people. This poem uses the same word "drunk" as "Zuiweng Pavilion", but it does not exaggerate those feelings of parting. Zuiweng Pavilion is about the joy of feasting and the beauty of mountains and rivers. This poem shows the scene of father and old people leaving the banquet after the death of their loved ones, which is particularly sad.
The first sentence describes the scenery and points out that the farewell is in the spring when the scenery is harmonious. Ouyang Xiu moved from Chuzhou to Yangzhou. The official documents of the imperial court were issued in the first month of that year and arrived in Yangzhou in February. Chuzhou is located in the south with a warmer climate. It is different from another poem "Dayuan Zhen" written by the author in Yiling (now Yichang, Hubei Province), which says that "the spring breeze is less than the horizon, and there are no flowers in the mountain city in February", but the flowers are thick and rotten, and the willows are light and bright. In this way, the first sentence of this poem not only describes the seasonal climate characteristics of Biechu, but also sets a comfortable and cheerful tone for the whole poem.
The second sentence describes that local officials and people specially bid farewell to Ouyang Xiu. "Before drinking hops", all the guests give a banquet to everyone, which is just the opposite of giving a banquet to everyone in Zuiweng Pavilion. On this day, silk and bamboo were added to the fun, and the atmosphere was warm and grand. Although it is different from the fun of playing chess in the past, it also shows the joy of the government and the people and the deep affection of Chuzhou people for the departure of this sage.
In the last two sentences, the poet implicitly expressed his contradictory and excited feelings in calm language. Ouyang Xiu was very kind during his tenure in Chuzhou. The sincere and friendly feelings expressed to him by the local elders during the farewell ceremony made the poet's heart restless for a long time: more than two years of relegation life is about to pass, and this place is quiet and simple, with simple folk customs. The author especially misses the scene of feasting with all the guests in Langya Mountain, Chuzhou. At this time, just in front of him, the mountains and rivers of Chuzhou and the enthusiasm of the government and the people made him have mixed feelings. The word "as drunk as I am" is well used here, which describes the expression and inner activities of the poet and all the guests when they drink. After comparing the sentences, the music played at this farewell party is Ouyang Xiu's favorite tune. However, because I'm worried about my baby, the better the music, the worse I feel. In the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Qian wrote a farewell poem entitled "Send Lv Zhi to Heyuan": "An old friend went to the border state, but now he stays in Thomas. When the long road to Guanshan is over, the hall is full of silk and bamboo. "The meaning expressed in the sentence here is what Ouyang Xiu used." Don't teach stringed instruments to be silent "is thought-provoking and poetic. Later, Huang Tingjian's poem "I am only drunk that day and full of worries about others" in "Leaving Ning at Night to Send Du Jian" also emerged from now on.
This poem by Ouyang Xiu is obviously different from the parting feelings rendered by ordinary works. Lightweight and natural, relaxed and smooth. This is in stark contrast to the "Kunxi Style" poetry style that was prevalent in the early Song Dynasty and deliberately pursued flowery rhetoric and empty content. Ouyang Xiu became a famous poet in the Northern Song Dynasty because he corrected the shortcomings of the times with his distinctive and simple poetic style. Chen Yan's Essence of Song Poetry: "It will always be a happy day."
