Do you know the history of Yugu Village in Yuyuan Road, Jing 'an District? Who funded, designed, rebuilt or experienced what?
In the seventh year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (188 1), Jing 'an Temple was restored. On the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, nearby farmers and craftsmen came to the temple to set up beaches and four temples, forming an early temple fair. The temple fair finally reached 1963, which lasted for 83 years. In the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu (1March 5, 908), British shops set up trams to carry passengers from Jing' an Temple to the Bund, with convenient transportation and increasing population. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the establishment of concession and the development of municipal construction, foreigners, comprador and wealthy businessmen rushed to buy land on both sides of roads, build private gardens, houses and entertainment places, and set up more than 0/00 shops, which catalyzed the rapid evolution of Jing 'an Temple from a quiet road to many commercial streets in China.
The twenties and thirties were the heyday of the development of Jing 'an Temple Road in the past, and it was also a rare historical opportunity for the expansion of the business community. During this period, apartment buildings rose one after another. From east to west, Donglai Building (1927), Jing 'an Building (193 1 year), Deyi Building (1930), Taixing Building (1933) and Dahua Apartment (1933) Guo Garden Mansion (1926, now foreign affairs office), Changde Apartment (1935), Kadoorie Mansion (1924, also known as "Marble Mansion", now Children's Palace), Silly Gu Village (1927) and other famous buildings.
Recreational facilities continue to flourish. 19 14 After Spanish businessman remus invested 50,000 pounds in Jing 'an Temple Road (now No.742 Nanjing West Road) to build Xiafeng Cinema (now Xinhua Cinema), in 19 17, remus built the Kade Grand Theatre at the entrance of Kade Road (now Shimen Second Road). 1930 Dahua Hotel (formerly Metropolitan Entertainment Center, now Meilong Town Square has been demolished) opened. 1939, American businessmen invested in the construction of Ping An Grand Theatre (now Ping An Mini Cinema). In the late 1930s, the Meiqi Grand Theatre, known as "the newest art theater in the Far East", was built. Ballrooms such as Bailemen Ballroom, Xinxianlin Ballroom, Metropolitan Ballroom, Vienna Ballroom (Textile Institute of the Ministry of Chemical Industry and the Fifth Commercial Building) and Nightclub Ballroom (Shanghai Headquarters of Lei Group this spring), which are known as "the first Yuefu in the Far East", have been opened one after another.
Business is prosperous in all aspects. There are many shops along the street, such as Deli Car Shop (1922), Zhang Zheng Dyeing Shop (1925), Kaisiling Food Store (1928) and Thomson Leather Shoes Store (1930). 1932 After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in Songhu, more famous shops moved to Jing 'an Temple Road to open stores and set up branches. 1933 has Hengsheng Suit Shop, Nanjing Barber Shop, 1944 Jiuhetang Drugstore and White Rose Hairdressing Shop, 1936 has Giant Panda Kai Department Store, Lvyangcun Restaurant, Chinachem Pharmacy, Watsons Pharmacy and Siming, Xinhua and Jincheng Banks, and the market is booming day by day. 1937 During the August 13th Incident, Japanese invaders attacked Shanghai, and a large number of businessmen and refugees poured into Jing 'an Temple Road, becoming "isolated islands". Lei Yunshang, Xuzhongdao Pharmacy, Taichang Food Store, Meilong Town Restaurant and other three major shopping malls in Dahua, Nanhai and Shanghai all moved here to open stores. At this point, Jing 'an Temple Road has become the western half of the "Shili Sheep Farm" in old Shanghai, which is well-known at home and abroad and is an integral part of Shanghai.
194 1 year, the Japanese invaders occupied the concession, and the business operation of Jing 'an Temple Road was bleak, and the bustling scene disappeared. 1945 after War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, American and British monopoly capital returned to Shanghai, and a large number of foreign goods were dumped on Nanjing West Road, which was extremely prosperous.
1949 after the liberation of Shanghai, with the change of social atmosphere, the business operation of Nanjing West Road is oriented to the people. In order to survive, some big stores and famous shops that used to sell high-grade woolen clothes successively operated clothes for everyone, Lenin and Zhongshan. Other industries also tend to deal in middle and low-grade goods.
During the Cultural Revolution, the commercial street on Nanjing West Road was in an unprecedented predicament, and the shops with a long history and rich characteristics were the first to be destroyed.
In the 1980s, the commercial street on Nanjing West Road was speeded up and its appearance was greatly improved. The tertiary industry is booming and commercial outlets extend in all directions. 1992, there are 457 outlets on Nanjing West Road, and the whole commercial street is lined up with complete industries. Emerging industries such as home appliances, electronic audio, and computers are constantly emerging, and financial industry, tourism, securities industry, information industry, and real estate industry are rising one after another. The types of business have increased from 43 to 86, and the market is becoming more and more prosperous. In addition to Huashan Hotel and Jing 'an Hotel, Shanghai Hotel (1983), Hilton Jing 'an Hotel (1987), Paramount Hotel (1990) and Shanghai International Guidu Hotel (1992) have been built one after another. Eight hotels have 37 19 rooms and 500 apartments, accounting for about 20% of the total number of tourist hotels in the city.
In the 1990s, Jing 'an District comprehensively developed Nanjing West Road in combination with the transformation of old districts. The development scope takes Nanjing West Road as the main axis, starting from Chengdu North Road in the east, reaching Zhenning Road in the west, Yan 'an Middle Road and Weihai Road in the south and Beijing West Road in the north, with a total area of 1.8 square kilometers. There are 58 comprehensive development projects on Nanjing West Road, with a total investment of 24.542 billion yuan and a total construction area of 2.878 million square meters. By 200 1, 42 projects have been completed, including Radio and Television Building, Universal World Building, Xinshidai Shangsha, Meilong Town Square, Zhongchuang Building, China Merchants Plaza, Nanzheng Building, 555 Commercial Building, Shanghai Kerry Business Center, CITIC Pacific Plaza and hang lung plaza, with a construction area of1546 million square meters.
