Jokhang Temple - Barkhor Street prayer path - Ramoche Temple - Sera Temple - Zhe Beng Temple - Drigong Ti Temple - Dezhong Hot Spring - Ganden Temple - Jiama Valley

Time: 3-4 days

Route details

If the Potala Palace is the symbol of Lhasa, then Barkhor Street surrounding the Jokhang Temple is the soul of Lhasa. Along the prayer path, follow the Tibetan old men wearing Tibetan robes and holding prayer wheels, walk with pilgrims who are prostrate and have long heads, and feel their piety and friendly smiles.

Sela Monastery, Drepung Monastery, and Ganden Monastery are the three major monasteries of the Yellow Sect. Drikung Ladder Monastery has a high status in Tibetan Buddhism and has the most famous sky burial platform, which is far away from Drikung Ladder Monastery. The 15km Dezhong Hot Spring was consecrated by Master Padmasambhava and is sought after by believers, while Jiama Valley is the birthplace of Songtsen Gampo.

Take three to four days to make a spiritual pilgrimage, passing through all the prominent monasteries and important holy sites in Tibetan Buddhism.

Yaowang Mountain Cliff Carvings, Gongdelin, Guandi Temple, and Zhaji Temple are not as good as the Jokhang Temple and the three major temples. Although they are so famous, they are also an integral part of the holy sites in Lhasa. Because there are few tourists, all you meet are local pilgrims wherever you go, which gives you a unique feeling of being close to Lhasa.

The second half of the journey is in the suburbs of Lhasa or nearby counties, including the Zhayeba Monastery, one of the four major monasteries, Pabangka, the oldest monastery in Lhasa, and the main monastery of the Kagyu Sect with a history of more than 800 years. Chubu Temple and Rezhen Temple, built in the Northern Song Dynasty, are located in remote mountains far away from the city, but they hide a long historical heritage.
