Is public housing in Hong Kong lifelong?

Public houses can live for a long time as they meet the relevant conditions, but it does not mean that they can live for a lifetime. Residents who have lived in public housing for 10 years or more must declare their family income to the Housing Department once every two years. Front-line management of the Housing Department will conduct basic checks on the income and asset declarations of all public housing tenants. In addition, the Housing Department has set up a central team to thoroughly examine randomly selected cases, suspicious cases and all cases of paying double rent.

According to the provisions of the public housing lease, each public housing unit is only for the head of the household and the family members named in the lease. If there is any change in family status due to birth, death or other circumstances, the householder must immediately notify the estate office/district rental office so that we can handle the case according to the existing policy.
