Day 1: Arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 5am

If you have booked a pick-up minibus in China, Taobao and Fliggy generally provide one-day tours with low-cost airport pick-up. The check-in time of the Kota Kinabalu hotel is after 2 pm, so it is difficult for Louzhu and his wife to be in the hotel. I stayed up until 7 a.m. and went out to eat and visit the University of Sabah and passed by the White Mosque (open Monday to Thursday and Sunday). We didn’t go in because it was not an open day. Girls need to wear Islamic clothing and can rent it. Then we recommend using UBER in Kota Kinabalu. It’s cheap to book a ride and download the mobile app to pay with a credit card.

The cost of an UBER car is 10-15 MYR per trip, which is very cost-effective. If the taxi starts at 15 MYR, it will cost 20-30 MYR for a casual walk. In many shopping malls and convenience stores in Kota Kinabalu, you can use Jack Ma’s father’s Alipay and grab coupons.

You can exchange Malaysian Ringgit in shopping malls or use Hua Xia Card to withdraw it from ATMs (a one-time handling fee of 12 yuan will be charged starting from January 1, 2018). It is recommended that regular exchange in local shopping malls is more cost-effective.

Went to Daqiao for seafood in the evening. It cost 110 MYR = 180RMB for two people. It was quite cost-effective

After having breakfast at the hotel the next morning, a mini bus took us to Kota Kinabalu Airport. It takes about 1 hour to arrive in Tawau and then continue the mini bus to take us to Semporna. If you haven't made a reservation, it's 25 MYR per person. There are many cars at the door, so the transportation is convenient and you can get there in about 70 minutes.

There are many locals selling fresh seafood in Semporna in the afternoon. If you know the price, you can kill them. It is recommended not to buy at night. It may not be very safe if you are surrounded. Go back to the hotel early at night and don’t run around. , I can see soldiers patrolling with guns in Semporna these days.

The popular local internet celebrity seafood restaurant can speak Chinese and English, and the price is relatively moderate. There is also a local restaurant called Tianxiake which is also pretty good.

Assemble at 8 a.m. the next day for island hopping tour + deep diving in Dunsa Park

The Bajau people have no identity or household registration and can only live in the sea. They can give some in kind and snacks, but never give money, and protect valuables. They like to be close to cruise ships.

It is recommended to rent shoes for MYR 5 per pair for mountain climbing. It takes 2-3 hours to go up and down the mountain. If it rains and is muddy the whole way, your shoes will be scrapped. The mountain is 600 meters high.

The third day in Semporna was snorkeling in Mabul Island and Kapalai. Lou Zhu found an agent online to book a water house and found it was too expensive to afford, so he chose island hopping and stayed in a water house for 3 days and 2 nights. The environment is not very good, 6000RMB for 2 people, and 7000RMB for deep diving, so the price/performance ratio is not high.

I couldn’t book it locally alone. I asked and heard that I could only book it with the agent Louzhu. I booked the last mini bus at 18:00 that night and went to the airport to catch the last flight back to Kota Kinabalu. It is highly recommended to take a deep diving test here, the underwater is extremely beautiful, so bring an underwater camera.

The Kota Kinabalu Mermaid Island + Mangrove and Sunset Mangrove felt deceived. The forest was green, but it turned out that the tree roots were red.
