Please introduce the location conditions of Mexico's coastal areas.

The Gulf Coast consists of five states bordering the Gulf of Mexico, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Because of its prosperous economic activities and concentrated population, the Gulf Coast is sometimes called the third coast of the United States. (The other two banks are East Coast and West Coast.)

Geography and climate

The Gulf of Mexico is an alluvial plain with many rivers, the largest of which is the Mississippi River, which flows into the sea in New Orleans. Coastal areas are very flat lowlands, and most of the land is marshland. There are many sandbars and islands or peninsulas parallel to the coast in the west of the Gulf Coast, including Padre Island and Galveston Island, with a total length of 2 10 km. These sandbars, islands and peninsulas can protect local construction and reduce the losses caused by natural disasters when storms or hurricanes strike. The coast from East Texas to Louisiana is mostly swampy.

The climate along the Gulf of Mexico is dominated by the Gulf of Mexico, because the Gulf of Mexico is the largest water body in this area, so it has the greatest impact on the climate in this area. Because the temperature of the four seasons in this area is regulated by the Gulf Stream, there will be no snow or snowstorm in winter as in the north, but the average annual rainfall in warm and humid summer is over 2000 mm [1]. Because this area is located near the subtropical Gulf of Mexico, the coastal areas are often hit by hurricanes in summer. In the summer of 2005, several strong hurricanes occurred in succession, which had a great impact on the local society. Besides hurricanes, floods and severe thunderstorms often occur in this area. Tornadoes do not often occur in coastal areas, but it is not impossible, but they are more common in inland areas. There are no big faults or volcanoes in this area, so there are few earthquakes in this area.

economic activity

The Gulf of Mexico is a major economic zone in the United States. The coastal marshes in Texas and Louisiana provide rich growth space for local coastal ecosystems, so there is a very developed offshore fishing and shrimp catching industry. South Louisiana Port in New Orleans and Houston Port near Galveston, Texas are the top ten international commercial ports in the world in terms of cargo throughput. The discovery of oil and gas fields near the Gulf Coast and convenient shipping routes have promoted the Gulf Coast to become an important petrochemical industry in the United States.

Population aggregation

Due to the prosperous business and warm climate, the coastal area of the Gulf of Mexico has always been a place where people gather, closely following the east and west banks.
