Located in the southwest of Guanzhong, Shaanxi Province, at the intersection of Loess Plateau and Weihe Valley, it faces Jingyang County across Jinghe River in the east, Ganxian County in the west, Xingping and Xianyang in the south and Yongshou and Chunhua in the north.

Liquan has a long history and is one of the major cultural relics counties in Shaanxi Province. There are many cultural relics in the territory, among which Zhaoling of Emperor Taizong is the most famous. Zhaoling is known as the largest royal cemetery in the world; Suling in the territory is the largest and best-preserved stone carving group in the tombs of the Tang Dynasty. Liquan County is between 402- 1467 meters above sea level, with four distinct seasons, the same season of rain and heat, moderate temperature and superior natural environment. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, which is stepped down and divided into three landforms: mountain, platform and Sichuan. The northern part is hilly and gully region, with Wufeng Mountain (elevation 1, 467m), Jiuzhang Mountain, chao yang shan and Fangshan Mountain. It stretches for more than 40 miles from west to east, accounting for 34% of the county's total area.

There are 300,000 mu of natural grassland in the northern mountainous area, and the barren hills, slopes and ditches to be developed cover an area of 80,000 mu, with deep soil layer, abundant sunshine and large temperature difference between day and night, which is the most suitable area for apples. The central part is the loess hilly area, with an altitude of 580-850m, accounting for 16% of the county's total area, and the southern part belongs to the loess plateau area, with an altitude of 450-560m, which is the Chuanyuan Plain, accounting for 50% of the county's total area.
