Who has information about Yu Hua?
Personal profile
Yu Hua, a native of Haiyan, Zhejiang Province, 1960 was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and later moved to Haiyan County with his parents. After graduating from high school, Yu Hua became a dentist because her parents were doctors. After five years, he gave up medicine and joined the county cultural center and Jiaxing Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Since then, he has formed an indissoluble bond with his own creation. Yu Hua studied in a postgraduate class jointly organized by Lu Xun College of Literature in Beijing and Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University. Yu Hua began to publish novels on 1984. He is a representative figure of avant-garde novels with the same fame as Ye and Su Tong. His works have been translated into English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Korean and Japanese, and published abroad. Among them, Living and Xu Sanguan Selling Blood were selected by hundreds of critics and literary editors as "the ten most influential works in the 1990s". He won the Italian Greenzana Carver Literature Award (1998) and the Australian Suspense Literature Award (2002). He is the author of a collection of short stories: Going Out at Eighteen, Things in Smoke, Novels, Living, Shouting in the Drizzle and Trembling.
Since Yu Hua published his debut novel "Going Out at Eighteen", he has caused a lot of shock and concern in the literary world and readers with his highly experimental works, and he has thus become a representative of China's avant-garde novels.
In fact, Yu Hua is not a prolific writer. His works, including short stories, novellas and novels, add up to no more than 800,000 words. He is famous for his exquisiteness. Most of his works are true and hard-written, with pure and meticulous narration, breaking the daily language order, organizing a self-sufficient discourse system, and on this basis, constructing a strange, grotesque, secret and cruel text world and text truth independent of the outside world. Yu Hua once said to himself: "I feel that all my creations are trying to be closer to reality. This truth of mine is not the truth in life. I think life is actually unreal, and life is a mixture of truth and falsehood. "
"To Be Alive" is a work of Yu Hua's changing style. In the narrative aspect, he gave up the avant-garde brushwork and moved towards the narrative way of traditional novels. But structurally, he can still give readers a sense of drama and imagination.
Main work

Cultural Website-Phoenix Net-Interview with Yu Hua of Phoenix Net
Yu Hua's face is as simple as a township family, but she answers questions quickly and tells the truth without losing her wit. He looked at the white sail outside the glass wall, the blue waves were sparkling and he was often absent-minded. He admits that writing should have been carried out in a time and space free from external interference, and it is impossible to talk about literature in such a beautiful place as Sydney. However, he should still talk about his mental journey of writing, which is also very literary.
When Yu Hua, who had been a dentist for five years, was asked why he wanted to be a writer, he said that he had read 10,000 mouths, all of which were the same, and he wanted to see something different. He saw people in the cultural center playing in the street. Said it was work and he didn't have to go to work on time. He liked this kind of work, so he chose to write novels, took a shortcut into the cultural center, and became a writer. The answer was very light, and Yu Hua's personality flavor also jumped out in bursts of laughter.
Dentist is a noble and rich profession in the west, so some listeners are puzzled and ask: will there be more money when you are a dentist? "Dentists in China are not rich." Yu Hua simply replied that it may make westerners unfamiliar with China's national conditions think for a long time!
Most of Yu Hua's works are about rural life. He said he was afraid to write about cities. Although he has lived in Beijing for more than ten years, he still thinks it is someone else's city. He believes: "A writer's childhood life is his most fundamental life. Life is like a copier, which prints the life of childhood. When I grew up, I just added a little color to this copy. " So even if it is about Beijing, he will move to small towns to write. The host asked: Your readers are all city people. Do they like your work? Yu Hua said helplessly that China readers are a chaotic group, and he doesn't know what readers like. "My readers are mostly college students, and now they also include middle school students. But they will abandon me at any time, so writers don't know how to please readers. "
In fact, Yu Hua's "township complex" and "urban readers" are not contradictory. What readers care about is not what you write, but how you write. Although Yu Hua's works show rural life, there is no lack of modern consciousness. In his words, "I am an China writer influenced by western literature." He said: "Kawabata Yasunari taught me how to describe in detail, Faulkner taught me psychological description, and Kafka let me discover a new world of novel writing."
He is not worried about being the shadow of others, because many writers in the world are also influenced by famous writers and various cultures. He thinks that one writer has the same influence on another as the sun has on trees. When trees absorb sunlight, they grow in the way of trees instead of sunlight. When a writer is influenced by many writers, he can only be more like himself than others.
Talking about the relationship between a writer and translation, Yu Hua said that translation is impossible for him. If he went to the translator himself, he would surely find the worst one, so he resigned himself to fate. I am a writer in China, but I am only half German and the other half is a translator. So he respects the translator's work and visits Germany, no matter how far it is, he always visits the other half. Some listeners asked, if you don't know a foreign language, how can you know whether his translation is good or not? Yu Hua said, listen to other people's reactions, if 7 out of 10 people say yes. Because everyone has different feelings and tastes in language, it is impossible for everyone to feel the same way. He also stressed that you can't listen to what other translators say, because your peers will have different opinions.
Of course, westerners are most interested in the feelings of China's social life vividly described by Yu Hua. Not only the audience burst into laughter, but even the translator can't help interrupting the translation. Like many writers who visit China, Yu Hua also has a "reserved program", which is to praise China's current politics without losing time. Whether from the heart or routine, westerners are more numb, perhaps in meditation, perhaps unable to sing. This is the moment when Yu Hua didn't cause laughter. However, I believe people all over China will feel the same way about Yu Hua's different experiences during the Cultural Revolution and the period of reform and opening up. The 42-year-old energetic writer said with emotion: "I feel that these are two completely different times, and the rapid development of society makes me feel like an old man of the century."
I don't know if Yu Hua would like to attend this writers' festival, because it coincides with the World Cup final week, and his mind has already flown to the stadium. As soon as the discussion was over, he was in no mood to greet the public, sign books and worry about the ball game. The night before "Alive" was released, he only showed up once and hurried back to the hotel to watch the opening ceremony broadcast. It seems that such a beautiful moment and such a beautiful place really shouldn't talk about literature!
Work outline
"alive"
Yu Hua's masterpiece "Living" describes the life of the hero with extremely clever and mature writing techniques and sophisticated style. The first person in the book is an observer, but the real hero is the narrator. The hero is an old man. When he was young, he did nothing, his family was rich and he had a virtuous wife. But he went in and out of brothels all day, gambled, and finally lost everything. Not only that, he also rode a fat prostitute and greeted his father-in-law loudly many times, which made his father-in-law feel embarrassed. His wife went to the casino to persuade him to go back, but he hit his pregnant wife. Such a stubborn and glib person has embarked on an extremely bumpy road after losing all his property. Because of a child's teasing, he was unexpectedly forced to the battlefield. When he was rescued by the People's Liberation Army and returned to his hometown, he changed from a dude to a farmer who had experienced many vicissitudes. Life hit him too hard. His daughter was dumb, and his son died tragically because the nurse drew too much blood. His mother finally died and his wife got rickets. His life was extended. Finally, he stood on the ridge of the field, driving an old ox that no one wanted and slowly plowing the land. Tell others about his life.
Yu Hua's works are wonderful because he portrays the characters completely and vividly. He tells the story of the people from the perspective of the people.
