In 2004, as one of the important measures to commemorate Comrade Xiaoping's birthday100th anniversary and to welcome the 55th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Shenzhen transformed the portrait square of Xiaoping. In order to make room for the backward movement of Xiaoping's portrait and the widening of the square, in May of that year, the Shenzhen Municipal Government demolished the unfinished building of Hebang Hotel.
