Appreciation of Yuan Opera "Double Tune Toad Palace Song Ode to the West Lake"

Original text

Double Tune·Chan Gong Song·Ode to the West Lake (The smoke and water of the West Lake are vast)

Aodun Zhouqing

The smoke and water of the West Lake vast.

One hundred hectares of windy pond, ten miles of lotus fragrance.

It’s better to rain or be sunny, and it’s better for Xishi to wear light makeup.

The boat is held tail to tail, and the sound of joy is heard all day long.

Spring is warm and the flowers are fragrant, and the year is bright and healthy.

There is really heaven above and Suzhou and Hangzhou below.

Notes

Shili: generally refers to width. Liu Yong's "Wang Hai Tide" has the sentence "Three autumns of osmanthus, ten miles of lotus flowers". Light makeup and heavy makeup: Borrowing from Su Shi's poem "Drinking the First Sunny and Later Rain on the Lake": "If the West Lake is compared with the West, light makeup and heavy makeup are always suitable."

Shenghuang: Sheng, a wind instrument. Reed, a thin sheet made of copper or other materials in an instrument.

Appreciation

The author draws on Su Shi’s poetry to describe the scenery of the West Lake. The last two sentences generally praise the West Lake, "There is heaven above, Suzhou and Hangzhou below" echoing the previous song "Langyuan China", completing the title. It makes people feel like they are there and have endless aftertaste.
