What is philosophy? It's really hard to answer. I knew what philosophy was when I first learned it. The more I learn, the less I know what philosophy is.
Aristotle said: philosophy originated from the sense of surprise to the outside world. In this sense, I think children have the most philosophical temperament. Children aged three or four are interested in everything, have a strong thirst for knowledge, and show the desire and creativity to learn, but their understanding is not enough. However, with the growth of age and the improvement of understanding, we often become accustomed to many things, lose our sense of surprise, lose our awareness and sensitivity to problems, and fail to find and study problems.
Philosophy is to keep children's innocence, curiosity and creativity in childhood. In this sense, I think philosophy is a "troublemaker", that is, it always finds problems where others can't see them.
For example, "does something external exist?" In the eyes of ordinary people, do you still need to ask? Does not exist. Where are you? But this is really a philosophical question. That's what Zhuang Zhoumeng Butterfly said.
Becquerel said that "being is being perceived", which we call idealism. However, Becquerel inspired Einstein. The essence of everything is determined by relationship, not inherent. The world is the sum of facts, not the sum of things. When we talk at ordinary times, we seldom reflect on this question: Is the meaning of every word fixed? The meaning of language is not fixed. A word can't be understood without a certain environment, and it can only be understood in a certain context, and this context is in use. The meaning of language is not in it, but in front of us.
Some existing definitions of philosophy are roughly as follows:
First, philosophy is the summary of natural science and social science. I think that in some cases, this definition regards the concept of function as the essential concept;
Secondly, philosophy is the most common knowledge in the objective world and human society. I think in a sense, because I have studied philosophy, there is no formula to set, and I have to rethink any specific problems;
Thirdly, philosophy is the love of wisdom, and the word "Sophia" in philosophy is the combination of "love" and "wisdom" in Greek. I think it also needs to be considered, because the knowledge form at that time was philosophy, and the love of wisdom is the characteristic of all knowledge, not unique to philosophy;
Fourthly, I think it is inappropriate to study "what" in other sciences and "why" in philosophy. Other disciplines have defined their research objects and found their own research methods, which are mature and systematic. On the contrary, philosophy should be revolutionary and critical, and it is a weapon to understand and transform the world.
