I had selfish motives in arranging Kiruna's itinerary because I wanted to go to a small village only 17km away from Kiruna. Jukkasjarvi. ?
I traveled thousands of miles to this small village with only a few dozen households, just because it has the famous first ice hotel in the world. ?
The Ice Hotel not only contains ice guest rooms, but also ice bars, ice art centers, ice cinemas, and even ice churches. Every year, couples make appointments to hold weddings here. This is probably the most ice-cold wedding in the world. Bar. Figure 2, Ice Hotel lobby
In the past, the entire Kiruna area had no tourists during the long and cold winter. In 1989, the Jukkas AB travel company here participated in an igloo exhibition and was very popular. They discovered business opportunities and started building ice hotels. Since then, Jukkas? AB Tourism Company invites famous architects and artists to design and decorate the hotel every November, taking ice from the Torne River next to the village. The hotel opens in December until it melts in April-May of the next spring. Figure 3, The melting ice hotel
Because the supply of rooms exceeds demand, the scale of the ice hotel continues to expand, more than 10 times its original size. Every year, 3,000-4,000 tons of ice are needed to build the ice hotel. Now Iceland, Canada, and Finland have similar ice hotels open for business.
The travel company probably did not expect that the brilliant idea of ??the ice hotel would not only attract business for itself, but even improve the winter tourism situation in the entire Kiruna region. Jukkas AB has registered the patent trademark Ice Hotel, so the ice hotel in Finland can only be called Ice Castle, and the ice hotel in Canada is called Hôtel de Glace (in Quebec, it is also appropriate to use French)

Although I am here in summer and cannot see the ice hotel, it is always possible to visit the 'ruins'
In summer, there is no ice hotel. But the cabin is still there. In winter, people who are afraid of the cold can stay in the wooden house next to the ice hotel instead of staying in the ice hotel. When we went there, there was almost no one in the hall, and even the staff didn’t know where to go for tea... Winter is the season here...

The small village of Jukkasjarvi is not the only ice hotel. This was once a gathering place for the Sami people. Since the 11th century, this place has been a market for the Sami people, providing necessary goods for the caravans traveling here. The small church at the end of the village is said to be the earliest church of the Sami people. Figure 6, the small church of the Sami people like building blocks
Near the church, there is a miniature exhibition area showing the life, architecture, and Labor tools, etc...
The entrance fee is 35 kronor. We originally wanted to go in and have a look, but we only had 50 kronor on us, and they don’t accept credit cards here. We had no choice but to send our classmate Ermao to go in and visit. Therefore, the pictures you see below were all taken by Ermao’s classmates. (We were surprised that they did not accept credit cards. Before we came, a friend joked that potato vendors in Northern Europe have POS machines that can swipe credit cards)
As we drove away, we kept looking back at this peaceful and peaceful place. How white should the small village be in winter?
I wish the people there and the lovely old couple who own the cabin a Merry Christmas
