Located in the Jinsha River Gorge, 11 kilometers north of Lijiang, it is named after more than 1 Naxi families live on an independent mushroom-like rock. Stone City is a precipice on three sides, which is as sharp as a knife, and it is difficult for apes to climb up. Residents on the rocks built a circle of five-foot-high stone walls around it, making it easier for Shicheng to defend and cover. There is only a natural stone gate in the south of the whole Shicheng for access, and closing the city gate becomes a foolproof safety island.
Baoshan Stone Town was built in the early Yuan Dynasty. It was one of the seven states under the jurisdiction of Xuanfu Department of Lijiang Road, Yunnan Province at that time, and it was also the place where Daoyuan, the famous Daguanlou Changlian in Kunming, crossed the leather bag. Now it is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit in Yunnan.
The Naxi language of Baoshan Stone Town is called Cibao Lupanwu. Cibao is the name of the Naxi leader who first lived here, and Lupanwu means Baishi Village. According to Geographical Records of Yuan History, he first moved from Loutou (now Yongning Township, ninglang county) to live here for more than twenty generations. At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, Kublai Khan personally led the Central Route Army, crossed the Jinsha River in leather bags and rafts, crossed the Prince Pass, and arrived at Baoshan City, thus attacking Dali and even unifying the whole country. From the Yuan Dynasty to the fourteenth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1277), Baoshan County was established, and two years later it was promoted to Baoshan Prefecture, which governed the five townships of Jindaqu, Dadong, Mingyin, Baoshan and Fengke.
Baoshan Stone Town is adjacent to the Jinsha River natural graben in the east, the cliff can be crossed by rocks in the south, the dangerous peaks in Yak Ridge in the west, the barrier of Taiziguan in the north, and the surrounding hillsides are terraced fields, which is a historical portrayal of the ancient Naxi people's transition from nomadic stage to farming.
Baoshan Stone Town is 2326 meters above sea level, with continuous terraces around the city, rippling wheat waves in winter and spring, and fragrant rice in summer and autumn, which makes the castle full of vitality. People go out to farm in the city during the day and go home to have a rest at night, so they don't have some fun. The ancient folk customs and songs and dances of Naxi nationality are still preserved here, which is of great value for excavation and research. Baoshan Shicheng is displaying its mysterious style with its breathtaking and unique terrain, ingenious design and primitive style. Tourists coming from afar often have a strong feeling of seeing a new world.
Shicheng Folklore
Follow the path to the south of Shicheng, climb the stairs and enter Shicheng. You will see the houses in the city are orderly, the lanes are vertical and horizontal, the houses are adjacent, and there are nearly 1 families. Residents come and go peacefully, and sit around and talk with you about things outside the city, like family. The streets and lanes in Shicheng are narrow, but they are not blocked, and there is no obstacle to traffic. People build the city on the spot, and the ground is uneven, but it is a natural stone road. All the residential communities in Shicheng follow the trend of the rock. Some columns, tables and stools are made of natural rocks with a little trimming. Some chisel the boulder in the kitchen as a stove, some chisel the boulder in the courtyard into a water tank, and some even chisel the boulder in the room into a stone bed. Many daily necessities made can be described as ingenious, controlling and utilizing the scientific level of nature, which is amazing.
The residents living in Shicheng are good at farming. They built their homes on boulders and cultivated their lives on land beyond the boulders. They built terraces, built water conservancy projects and planted rice, wheat and corn, forming terraces around the boulders. The wheat is ripe in May, and the rice is yellow in October. The green and golden wheat and rice waves hold the huge wheel-like stone city, which is the most beautiful season in the stone city.
Kublai Khan's Genang Crossing the River Site
The steep rock peak in the north of Stone Town is called Prince Cibo Pass by Naxi people, and it was named to commemorate Kublai Khan's leading the Mongolian army to cross the river from Genang on the other side of Jinsha River under Baoshan Stone Town, and to conquer Dali in the south.
In the 12th year of Chun _ in Song Lizong (AD 1252), Genghis Khan, the ancestor of the Yuan Dynasty, sent Prince Kublai Khan to attack Dali. Kublai Khan led the Yuan army to cross the Kangzang Plateau from Lintao, Gansu Province, and the soldiers marched into Lijiang in three ways. Kublai Khan personally led the middle route army, passed through Yongning, Ninglang, and reached the Jinsha River, facing the Stone Town across the river. At that time, Mai Liang, the leader of Naxi nationality, judged the situation and resolutely chose the strategy of joining the Mongolian army. He personally went to the Cibo Ferry near the Jinsha River in the stone city, opened the village gate, and quoted the Mongolian army to cross the raft. The Mongolian army entered Baoshan and passed a steep rock peak. It is said that this rock peak is the tail of Yulong Snow Mountain, which is magnificent and dangerous. After the Mongolian army successfully crossed it, Mai Liang named this rock peak Prince Cibo Pass and passed it with Prince Kublai Khan of Zhiyuan.
