Hotel management is an academic research in the hotel industry. The degree of hotel management is usually awarded by a university college specializing in hotel management research or a business school with a hotel management research department. A degree in hospital management can also be called hotel management, hotel and tourism management, or hotel management. The degrees awarded in this academic field include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy.

The focus of hotel management research is the management of hotel operation, including hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, amusement parks, destination marketing organizations, conference centers, country clubs and related industries.

The core disciplines include accounting, administration, finance, information system, marketing, human resource management, public relations, strategy, quantitative methods and departmental research in various fields of hotel industry.

In the Philippines, hotel and tourism courses are emerging research in Philippine education. There, it is called the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BS-HRM). It follows American hotel management courses, including: culinary arts, business administration, public relations, marketing, tourism management, accounting and human resources research.
