Are wool carpets widely used in hotels?

To tell the truth, it's really not much. That thing is expensive and troublesome to take care of. People who stay in hotels will leave after a few days, and generally don't care if it is a wool carpet. If you meet local tyrants, you can stay in the presidential suites of some five-star hotels. I will never stay in any ordinary hotel.
