The Chongqing People’s Great Hall, located at No. 173 Renmin Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, was built in June 1951 and completed in April 1954. It is an antique ethnic building complex and one of the top ten cultural symbols of Chongqing. , is a masterpiece that cleverly combines the traditional Chinese palace architectural style with the long-span structure of Western architecture. It is also one of the landmark buildings in Chongqing.

The Chongqing People’s Great Hall is composed of four parts: the auditorium and the east, south and north buildings. The total area is 66,000 square meters, of which the auditorium occupies 18,500 square meters. The design of the Chongqing People’s Great Hall imitates the palace forms of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, using the traditional method of axial symmetry, with a well-proportioned structure. The contrast is strong, the layout is rigorous, quaint and bright. The main part of the dome, the Golden Dome, was born out of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. It consists of the auditorium and the east, south and north towers.

The Great Hall of the People in Chongqing imitates the Temple of Heaven, which means praying for "the peace of the country and the people". The cylindrical watchtower in the center is the epitome of Tiananmen Square in Beijing; the north and south wings are inlaid with towers similar to the four corners of the Forbidden City in Beijing; in the vast courtyard, the front steps are wide and flat, with six steps. There is also a row of exquisite gate towers directly in front of the circular main building, which looks like the Tiananmen Rostrum in Beijing.
