Foshan’s historical changes in Foshan Town

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it belonged to Baiyue. As early as the Qin and Han Dynasties, it had become a large-scale agricultural and fishery village, and the villagers called it "Jihua Township". In the second year of Zhenguan of the Tang Dynasty (628), three Buddha statues were excavated on Tapogang in the city, and a stone list was erected to call it "Foshan". During the Song and Yuanfeng years, the Baojia system was implemented, and each township was divided into forts. Foshan Fort was the first in Jihua Township. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Foshan, together with Hankou Town in Hubei, Jingdezhen in Jiangxi, and Zhuxian Town in Henan, were known as the "Four Famous Towns" in my country. "Famous Town", together with Beijing, Hankou and Suzhou, are known as "the four major gatherings in the world". In the 10th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1732), Foshan was separated from Nanhai County and the "Foshan Zhili Hall" was established, directly under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Prefecture. In the twelfth year of Yongzheng's reign, Guangzhou Prefecture was reorganized in Foshan and became the Foshan branch of Guangzhou Prefecture. Administratively, it still belonged to Nanhai County.

This was the beginning of the history of today's Foshan City. . The history begins when Shunde County, Nanhai County, Gaoming County, Sanshui County, and Zhongshan County are officially affiliated with Foshan City. Later, as Zhongshan City was one of the Four Little Dragons of Guangdong and far away from Foshan City, it was expanded to a prefecture-level city and officially separated from the jurisdiction of Foshan City.
