Xianning wedding customs

This custom is still followed in Xianning. The man and woman select an auspicious day, and the matchmaker brings their southern son to the woman's home. The woman's parents draw up a list of close relatives such as the fifth and sixth uncles, the seventh aunt and the eighth aunt, and the man's family prepares enough "four gifts", which are sent by the woman's elders. And the matchmaker leads the bride to your door. In rural areas of Xianning, it is usually the day before getting married. The groom sends someone, usually a matchmaker, son-in-law, uncle of the groom and others, to deliver the gifts, clothes, food and wine to the bride's house after daily discussion. The woman's family prepared a banquet to entertain the man and his party. After lunch, the man and his party hurried home. If the woman is far away from Xianning and cannot return that day, it is also customary to stay overnight at the woman's house and marry the bride the next day.
