Which city does Baicheng City in Jilin Province belong to?

Baicheng city is located in Horqin grassland in the northwest of Jilin province, which is called Bai for short and Baicheng Zi for common name. Formerly known as Chaganhaote, it is transliterated in Mongolian, meaning "Baicheng".

There are different opinions about the origin of the name "Baicheng Zi".

Legend has it that six or seven hundred years ago, the vast Horqin grassland was rich in aquatic plants and fat cattle and sheep. One winter, a sudden snowstorm came all over the sky. The herdsmen were unprepared and at a loss, and shouted desperately at the cattle and sheep that were blown away by the snowstorm. But the snowstorm is getting bigger and bigger, and the hungry herdsmen and livestock are about to be swallowed up by it. At this moment, the herdsmen found that a snow city suddenly appeared in the nearby Gaogang, and they quickly drove the livestock in. The snowstorm passed, and people and animals survived because they hid in the Syracuse. Mongolian herders set up "Aobao" on it in order to feel that it is supernatural and respectable. This place is conveniently the Peking University post in Baicheng today. From then on, anyone who comes here to graze will burn incense and worship here, calling it "Chagan Haote".

There is a more interesting story about the origin of "Baicheng Zi". Legend has it that Yue Fei, the hero of the Song Dynasty who resisted gold, led an army to attack the city that year, and it is still unbreakable after 12 years. Later, Yue Fei discovered that there was a white bird, the size of a pigeon, nesting in the city. It flies out for food during the day and flies back to the city at night. He consulted the local herdsmen and came up with a strange trick to attack the city. He ordered the soldiers to catch thousands of Bai Niao, tie cotton and hemp rope coated with sulfur to Bai Niao's feet, light it and put the bird back in its original place. These birds dragged the flames back to their nests in the city. Before long, a tucheng turned into a sea of fire. Yue Fei gave the order, and the soldiers broke into the city in disorder. Later, people called it Tucheng. "Baicheng Zi" means that Bai Niao helped break the city.

There are several other theories about the origin of Baicheng. Because the walls and roofs are painted with white alkaline earth, the houses and streets are mostly grayish white, especially when the sun rises in the morning or the afterglow of the setting sun will be exhausted, the market in Roy will be silvery white, so it is called "Baicheng Zi". He also said that there used to be a car stall in Beidagangzi in the city in the early years. In order to attract business, the shopkeeper asked someone to paint the house and courtyard wall with white mud powder, which looked like a white castle from a distance. Gradually people called this place "Baicheng Zi". It is also said that before the county government was built in Jing 'an County, there was a mound around the city, which was said to be the site of Zhaozhou in Liao Dynasty, and the local people called it "Baicheng Zi".
