China Oriental Silk Market in this town is one of the largest professional silk textile markets in China, with a turnover of 654.38 billion yuan in 2002. 1992, Shengze area was approved by the State Science and Technology Commission as a national silk spark-intensive area, and in 2002 it was named as a famous silk town in China by China Textile Industry Association. Shengze town has become the main production base, export base and product distribution center of China silk textile industry.

Shengze, located at the southernmost tip of Wujiang City, is famous for its "sunrise silk, clothes and quilts all over the world". In the third year of Wu Chiwu in the Three Kingdoms (240), Wu Sima Shengbin stationed troops here to build a village, which was later called Shengzhai. Due to the flood in the west, the village changed to Ze, which is still in use today.
