Dongting Lake is the main freshwater economic fish base in China. There are 1 13 species of fish belonging to 1 1 order 22 families, among which there are 102 species in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, including 65 species of CYPRINIDAE, LEPIDOPTERA 10 species and 9 species of Misguridae.

Dongting Lake presents a landscape of stream swamp and river network plain, surrounded by mountains on the east, south and west, and an open horseshoe basin on the north.
