Shantou City belongs to Guangdong Province and is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province.

Shantou, referred to as "Shantou" for short, is a prefecture-level city and special economic zone in Guangdong Province. Located in Chaoshan area of eastern Guangdong, at the southern tip of Hanjiang Delta, it is connected to Chaozhou in the north, Jieyang in the west and Nanhai in the south, facing Taiwan Province Province across the sea, with Hanjiang, Rongjiang and Lianjiang entering the sea. It is the only city in Chinese mainland with an inner bay.
