International Kite Federation, referred to as "International Kite Federation", was formally established in Weifang, China on April 1. 0989. At present, there are 16 members and 67 member countries, and the secretariat is located in Weifang, Shandong Province. The International Kite Federation has set up the Golden Kite Award and the Silver Kite Award in recognition of organizations and individuals who have made important contributions to the International Kite Federation and international kite sports.

This is the first international sports organization initiated and led by Chinese and located in a medium-sized city in China. At the inaugural meeting, 84 representatives of kite organizations from the United States, Japan, Britain, Italy and other countries and regions 16 elected the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general and board members of IFFI through democratic consultations. With the approval of the State Council, China, the Congress decided that the headquarters of the International Wind Federation should be located in Weifang, the kite capital of the world. The birth of the International Kite Federation marks that the world kite industry has a leading organization and activity center, which has played a positive role in promoting the vigorous development of the global kite industry, enhancing the friendship of kite lovers from all countries and promoting world peace and friendly exchanges. For more than 20 years, the International Kite Federation has organized many activities of great significance, which has effectively promoted the development of kite sports around the world. In particular, actively participate in, strongly support and wholeheartedly help Weifang International Kite Fair, and help guide the drafting, formulation and implementation of a series of normative rules such as the rules of the international kite competition.
