What does CVV mean?

CVV is the card verification value, and MasterCard is called the card verification code (CVC).

VISA? Both CVV and MC CVC are 3-digit or 4-digit numbers generated by card number, expiration date and service constraint code, which are generally written in the 2-track custom data area of card magnetic stripe.

CVV and CVC are generated in the same way, but they are called in different ways. CVV2 is a number printed in the signature area of Visa/MasterCard card. It is located in the 3 digits after the credit card number.

The last three digits we usually see on the back of a credit card are actually CVV2, not CVV code.

Extended data:

special technology

The "visa authentication" service is based on a technical platform called "3D security". The specification and communication protocol of this technology are encrypted by SSL technology, and now most online businesses adopt SSL technology.

The "Visa Verification" service logo will be displayed on the web pages of online merchants participating in the service, and it will also appear every time the cardholder registers online shopping and enters his personal password for verification.

If the selected shopping website joins the "Visa Verification" shopping website, you can enjoy the visa verification service. Such businesses are all safe shopping websites confirmed by Visa.

When paying, a page will pop up for you to enter your password (that is, visa verification code). This web page is actually the page of the issuing bank (this can be judged from the logo of the issuing bank on the pop-up page, because it is impossible for a merchant to judge that it is sent by a bank thousands of miles away just by a string of credit card numbers).

The cardholder completes the identity verification with the issuing bank through the "visa verification" password agreed with the bank in advance. In fact, this page will not cause the password to be intercepted by the merchant, because the cardholder directly verifies the identity on the issuing bank's webpage.

After verification, the issuing bank will send a message to the merchant to authorize the transaction, and the cardholder can complete the transaction with the merchant.

The function of visa verification is not only to verify the legality of overseas websites, but also to verify the identity of cardholders and reduce the risk of overseas online shopping being stolen.
