There is a purple block crystal under the soup pot in the restaurant, which seems to be hot.

This is solid alcohol.

Solid alcohol is not solid alcohol (the melting point of alcohol is very low, it is-1 17.3℃, and it can't be solid at room temperature), but a gel formed by sodium acetate and alcohol.

Sodium acetate is soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol. When the two solutions are mixed, sodium acetate precipitates in the form of gel in alcohol. The liquid gradually becomes thick from turbidity, and finally condenses into a whole block to obtain solid alcohol.

Equipment and drugs

Drugs: Acetic acid essence (30% CH3COOH solution), industrial alcohol (95% C2H5OH solution), edible soda ash (Na2CO3).

Equipment: test tube (can be replaced by heat-resistant glass container), alcohol lamp (can be replaced by candle), glass rod (can be replaced by plastic pen), matches.

Operation instructions of production steps

(1) Make soda ash into hot saturated solution.

(2) slowly adding the vinegar essence into the sodium carbonate solution until bubbles are no longer generated, and acetic acid reacts with sodium carbonate to generate sodium acetate, water and carbon dioxide.

(3) evaporating the obtained solution to prepare a saturated solution.

(4) slowly adding alcohol into the solution. Note: At first, the alcohol will boil violently, so you need to pour the alcohol slowly. (5) After the solution is cooled, solid alcohol can be obtained.

(6) Put the obtained solid alcohol into an iron can and ignite it when in use.
