The Background and Emergence of Knight Hotel

Director wes anderson first contacted Johnson Schwarczman and Natalie Portman in 2005. Schwarczman and Anderson had previously worked together in rushmore (1998), Anderson's second cult feature film, and they also lived together in Schwarczman's apartment in Paris for several months. The director got Portman's email address from Scott Rudin, and Rudin was the producer of the 2004 film Stealing the Heart, starring her. Both actors took time out to shoot, and Anderson personally funded the next film. The film was shot at the Raphael Hotel in Paris, followed by 1996 film Love in Paris and 1998 film Love in Five Carats (Place Vend? My) position. The crew is only 15. It was shot in widescreen format, and the items in Anderson's apartment were used as props. The whole shooting took two and a half days, and the editing took a week, all done by Anderson's computer. Although the wardrobe designed by fashion designer marc jacobs and the suitcase made by louis vuitton were used in the film, the director described the film making process as "like making a student film".

Anderson originally intended to make this film into a short film with an independent plot, but soon after filming, he realized that Schwarczman's role was very similar to that of a protagonist in a long film script he was writing at that time. The film will be produced in a year's time, and its name is Crossing Darjeeling. The main plot of crossing Darjeeling begins two weeks after the story of Knight Hotel. Jack Whitman, played by Schwarczman, and his two brothers went to India. The dialogue between the two characters at the end of Knight Hotel comes from the narration of Schwarczman's two brothers at the end of Crossing Darjeeling, which is equivalent to an excerpt from his short story. Portman also made a guest appearance in the film. Fox Searchlight Company, which invested in Crossing Darjeeling, didn't know the existence of Knight Hotel until the film was finished. The company said that it has no economic connection with this short film.
