Self-cultivation of Caigentan

1 1 A gentleman knows his heart, but a gentleman is talented.

Original text: The heart of a gentleman is clear and clear, and it must be unknown; A gentleman's talent is hidden in jade beads, which is not easy to know.

A gentleman's mind is as open as a clear sky, letting others know his mind; A gentleman's talent, like pearls and jade treasures, cannot be easily known to others.

Interpretation: A gentleman is open-minded, and let others know what he thinks. If you hide your thoughts and others can't guess what you are thinking, then you may have doubts. If the other person is a well-behaved gentleman, then he will not doubt that you have a dark mind; If the other person is a despicable person, then he is likely to doubt you with a despicable mind. In order to avoid these unnecessary suspicions and doubts, you should make your mind frank and clear, and then the suspicions and doubts will naturally disappear. Talented people are easily envied by others, and this envy may turn into jealousy in some cases. Therefore, in order to avoid unnecessary right and wrong, a gentleman should cherish some of his talents.

12 The real taste is only faint, even for people.

Original: Fat and sweet are not true, and the true taste is only light; The magic is extraordinary and unique to ordinary people.

Mellow wine, greasy food, spicy and sweet food are not really delicious. The real food in the world is light. People who behave strangely are not really virtuous, and truly virtuous people behave like ordinary people.

Interpretation: Ordinary people realize extraordinary ideals in ordinary life. Hua is a famous mathematician in China. When I was a child, my family was poor and I had no money to study, so I taught myself. When he was young, Hua liked to study mathematical problems. One day, he read a paper written by a famous professor at that time and found there were mistakes in it. So Hua wrote an article and sent it to Science magazine, pointing out the mistakes in the papers of famous professors. This paper written by Hua was seen by the head of the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University. He appreciated Hua's talent very much and invited Hua to give a lecture in the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University. When Hua was invited to the Mathematics Department of Tsinghua University, everyone was a little surprised. I didn't expect such a young and talented person to look so ordinary and have a little disability. It was such an ordinary-looking man who later became a famous mathematician in China. So, cultivate your body and mind, don't chase novelty and strangeness, and don't worship those who look different and strange. The most insipid taste is the real taste of life. Great and extraordinary people are those who look ordinary.

13 righteousness belongs to heaven and earth, and fame is in Gankun.

Original: I would rather be ignorant and smart, leaving some righteousness to return to heaven and earth; I would rather thank you for your enthusiasm than indifference, leaving a clear name in Gankun.

It is better to keep a simple nature, abandon the treacherous and hypocritical scheming, and leave some righteousness back to heaven and earth; I would rather stay away from the prosperity and take it lightly, leaving an innocent reputation between heaven and earth.

? Interpretation: compared with hypocrisy and treachery, innocence is more valuable; An innocent reputation is more worth pursuing than a luxurious life. In order to keep a good reputation, I am willing to live a simple life. In the first year of Tianhan (BC 100), Su Wu, the minister of the Western Han Dynasty, went to Xiongnu and was detained. Xiongnu aristocrats repeatedly coerced and tried to make Su Wu surrender, but Su Wu refused. Khan was ashamed and annoyed, and ordered Su Wu to be locked in the cellar, without food or water. In cold weather, Su Wu swallowed the snow. A few days later, the Huns were surprised to find that he was not dead. Khan ordered Su Wu to herd sheep on the edge of the North Sea, saying that he would not let Su Wu go back until the rams released by Su Wu gave birth to lambs. In this way, Su Wu has been herding sheep. Without food, he looked everywhere for some wild fruits, grass roots and other things to satisfy his hunger. On the one hand, he is rich, on the other hand, he leads a poor and hard life. He chose to endure poverty. After being detained by Xiongnu 19 years, Su Wu finally returned to his hometown. He changed from a black-haired man to a white-haired old man and suffered a lot, but he never changed his mind and never surrendered to the Huns. Su Wu's integrity is praised by later generations.

14 people are merciful and interesting everywhere.

Original: Everyone is in great sorrow, and Vimo has no second thoughts about killing the executioner. There are tangible benefits everywhere, and the golden house is different from the two places. Just want to close the letter, miss face to face, is thousands of miles away.

Everyone has a compassionate heart. In this respect, there is no difference between Vimala Bodhisattva and butcher and executioner. There is interest in life everywhere. In this respect, a gorgeous house is no different from a simple thatched house. Just because people's hearts are often closed by various desires and emotions, they are only close to compassion and true interest, but they miss it face to face, thousands of miles away.

Interpretation: This paragraph says that human nature is good, and everyone has compassion in his heart. Even a cruel person like a butcher and executioner has good thoughts in his heart. In ancient China, some people advocated that human nature was good, while others advocated that human nature was evil. For example, Mencius advocated that human nature is good. He said, "Everyone has compassion, right and wrong, resignation and shame." Xunzi advocated that human nature is evil. He said: "human nature is evil, and good people are illusory." There are many arguments about whether human nature is good or evil. No matter whether human nature is good or evil, we should cultivate our compassion through self-cultivation A society without compassion and goodwill for others is a society without a future.

Interest in life can be seen everywhere, and people who live in gorgeous houses or thatched cottages can enjoy it. The taste of life is not determined by how much wealth you have. A person who is very rich in materials may not find any flavor of life at all.

15 No offense, no offense.

Original: The liver is sick, the eyes can't see, the kidney is sick, and the ears can't hear. If a disease is not seen, it will be seen. Therefore, if a gentleman wants not to offend Zhao Zhao, he must first offend the invisible.

People can't see clearly with liver disease, but can't hear clearly with kidney disease. The disease is born where people can't see it, but it breaks out where people can see it. Therefore, a gentleman should make no mistakes where everyone can see him, and correct his words and deeds where everyone can't see him.

Interpretation: Physical diseases grow where people can't see them, but when they attack, they are where everyone can see them. As the saying goes, "Skynet is long, but not leaking", don't think that what you do privately can deceive everyone's eyes. As the saying goes, "If you want others to know, you must do it yourself." What you do in secret will be exposed to the sun one day. What others don't know, God knows. Don't do anything shameful in a dark and secret environment when others can't see or hear. Without supervision, we should be more strict with ourselves.
