Xisha Islands, also known as Paracel Islands and Hoang Sa Islands, is one of the four major islands in the South China Sea, consisting of Yongle Islands and Xuande Islands, with a coastline of 518 kilometers. The Xisha Islands are now controlled by the People's Republic of China, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam claims its sovereignty.

The People's Republic of China and the State Council have approved the proposal of Hainan Provincial Government to upgrade the existing Xisha Islands Office and set up a county-level city "Sansha City" to administer the Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands and Nansha Islands. At present, preparations for the establishment of the city are under way. According to the news, the sea area of Sansha City in the future will exceed 2 million square kilometers, which is close to a quarter of the national land area (9.6 million square kilometers). Vietnam is classified as Huangshadao County, Da Nang City.

History

1. There is a site in the Tang and Song Dynasties, many sites in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, 14 ancient temples in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and a large number of stone tablets in the Qing and Republic of China on the Xisha Islands, which shows that China people have lived in the Xisha Islands since the Tang Dynasty and are the masters of southwest zhongsha islands.

2. In 1932, the Xisha Islands came under the jurisdiction of France and was taken over by the government of the Republic of China after World War II.

3. In 1946, the Marine Corps of the Republic of China was stationed in Yongxing Island.

4. From April to May in 195, when the China People's Liberation Army occupied Hainan Island, the garrison on Yongxing Island was forgotten by the government of the Republic of China, until three months later, the garrison on Yongxing Island surrendered to the China People's Liberation Army (then called the uprising return). Since then, Yongxing Island has been stationed by the Chinese people and the Chinese navy.

5. However, until 1974, due to the weak naval power, long-distance deployment ability and logistics support ability, the Chinese people and the Chinese army did not deploy troops on the main islands and reefs of Xisha Islands. In 1974, the Saigon authorities in South Vietnam included the Xisha Islands in the territory of South Vietnam, and China protested. Later, the Sino-Vietnamese Xisha self-defense counterattack (Xisha naval battle) broke out.

2. It is located more than 18 nautical miles southeast of Hainan Island.

3. To the west are Yongle Islands: Coral, Ganquan, Gold and Silver, Chenhang, Jinqing and Guangjin.

4. To the east is Xuande Islands, which consists of seven main islands, namely Zhaoshu Island, North Island, Middle Island, South Island, Shidao Island, East Island and Yongxing Island.

5. And the relatively independent Zhongjian Island, Gaojianshi, Panshiyu, Yuzhuo Reef, Langhua Reef and Beijiao.

3. Xisha has a dual-use airport (completed in 1991), with a runway of 1,2 meters, which can take off and land Boeing 737 aircraft.

4. There are three main roads on the island, the center of which is "Beijing Road". There are China Industrial and Commercial Bank, hospital, grain station, post office at the southernmost tip of China, department store and aquatic products company. There are neat coconut trees beside the sidewalk and green lawns under the trees, and the environment is quite neat.

5. There is a stone dike about 8 meters long on Yongxing Island to connect the stone island in the northeast.
