The Battle of Cliff Mountain, also known as the Battle of Yamen, was a battle between Song Jun and Yuan Army in the late Song Dynasty. This war is directly related to the demise of the Southern Song Dynasty. It is said that the Song and Yuan Dynasties invested more than 300,000 troops, and eventually Song Jun was wiped out. After this war, the Song Dynasty also perished.

Yamen is called Yamen because there is a cliff mountain in the east and a soup bottle mountain in the west, which extends into the sea like a half-opened door.

After the Yuan army defeated the Song army in the battle of Xiangfan, it pushed Lin 'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang), the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. In the second year of Deyou (1276), the Song Dynasty failed to negotiate peace, and the five-year-old emperor Song Gongdi surrendered. Yang of Song Duzong, under the escort of his uncle Yang, fled with his son, King Song Er (Zhao Min and Zhao Min of wangyi) and met with ministers Lu Xiufu, Zhang Shijie, Chen Hewen Tianxiang in Jinhua. Then Zhao Min was appointed as the marshal of the military forces in the world, and Zhao Min was appointed as the deputy marshal. Bo Yan, commander-in-chief of the Yuan Army, continued to pursue the two kings, who had to flee to Fuzhou. Soon, Zhao Min, who just turned 7, proclaimed himself emperor and changed to "Jingyan". His biological mother, Yang, was honored as Queen Yang, and his younger brother, Zhao Min, was named Wang Wei, Zhang Shijie as general, Lu Xiufu signed a book for the Privy Council, Chen as prime minister, and Wen Tianxiang worked for Shaobao, believed in the country and organized anti-Yuan work.

After Zhao Yun proclaimed himself emperor, the Yuan Dynasty stepped up efforts to destroy the Song Dynasty. In the second year of Jingyan (1277), Fuzhou fell, and Zhao Chang was demoted to the court in the Southern Song Dynasty and went straight to Quanzhou. During this period, the dragon boat in Zhao Min was besieged by the Yuan Army, but it only escaped because of the fog that day. In Quanzhou, Zhang Shijie asked to borrow a boat, which was rejected by Pu Shougeng, Quanzhou ambassador and Arab businessman. So Zhang Qian was at odds, which led Pu Shougeng to surrender to the Yuan Dynasty. Zhang Shijie robbed the ship and went to sea, so the exiled court in the Southern Song Dynasty had to go to Guangdong. Zhaoyun was about to flee to Leizhou, but he was caught in a typhoon at sea, and the dragon boat capsized. Zhaoyun drowned and got sick. Chen, the prime minister of Zuo, suggested taking Zhao Min to Zhancheng (now southern Vietnam) and going to Zhancheng himself, but Zhao Min and his younger brother called him back several times, but he didn't come back. 128 1 year, Jacky occupied the city, and he fled to Siam (now Thailand), where he finally died. In the third year of Jingyan (1278), due to years of pampering and weak health, Zhao Min finally died on the island of Naozhou, Guangdong, at the age of 10, and was buried in Yongfu Mausoleum. After his death, Wang Wei Zhao Min, who was only seven years old, ascended the throne in Xizhou (present-day Lantau Island), with an auspicious year. After Zhao Min acceded to the throne, Lu Xiufu, the left prime minister, and Zhang Shijie, the imperial teacher, escorted Zhao Min to Shaanxi, and set up a stronghold in the local area, ready to continue to resist Yuan.

In the 15th year of Zhiyuan (1278), Wen Tianxiang, the prime minister, was captured alive by the king of Zhang Hongfan in Wupoling (now Haifeng North, Guangdong), and Wen Tianxiang wrote a poem "Crossing Zero".

In the second year of Xiangxing (1279), Yuan attacked Zhang Hongfan on a large scale in the small court of Southern Song Dynasty headed by Zhao Min. Later, Hengli, a descendant of Xixia who captured Guangzhou not long ago, also led reinforcements to participate in the war. According to legend, at first, Song Jun had about 200,000 troops and 1000 warships. There are only 20 thousand yuan troops and more than 50 warships. Northerners are not used to naval battles and feel dizzy. At this time, there is a suggestion within Song Jun to occupy the Gulf exit first and protect the retreat route to the west. In order to prevent soldiers from escaping, Zhang Shijie vetoed the proposal and ordered the burning of palaces, houses and strongholds on land; It will also order 1000 Song Jun ships to be connected by big ropes in the form of "serial ships" in the Gulf, and arrange for Zhao Min's "Dragon Boat" to be placed in the middle of the army to take command. Yuan military boats carrying thatch and grease set fire to Song boats. However, the ships in the Song Dynasty were all mud-covered, and a long piece of wood was placed horizontally on each ship to resist the fire attack of the Yuan Army. In the Yuan Dynasty, the navy failed to attack by fire. The navy blocked the bay, and the army cut off the road of pumping firewood in Song Jun. After eating dry food for more than ten days, it was thirsty. Many soldiers used seawater to quench their thirst, their faces were swollen and they vomited a lot. Zhang Shijie led Fang Xingri to fight against the Yuan Army, Zhang Hongfan captured Han, Zhang Shijie's niece, and failed to surrender to Zhang Shijie three times.

On February 6, Zhang Hongfan was ready to storm, and some people in the Yuan Army suggested using artillery first. Hong Fan thinks that the artillery has disrupted Song Jun's formation and made it easier to retreat. Tomorrow, Zhang Hongfan will divide the troops into four roads, and Song Jun into three roads: East, South and North. Hong Fan led the army away from Song Jun, taking playing music as the general attack signal. First of all, the northern army failed to attack the northern part of Song Jun, and Hengli and others went with the flow. Yuan Jun pretended to play music, but Song Jun thought Yuan Jun was having a party, and he was a little slack. At noon, Zhang Hongfan's navy launched a frontal attack, then covered the pre-built and ambush ship building with cloth and sounded the golden bell as an attack signal. The ambush fell with a negative shield and approached the Song ship in the rain. The warships of the two sides approached, and the Yuan army sounded the golden bell and withdrew its cloth to fight. At one time, it even broke seven Song ships. The Song Division was defeated, and the Yuan Army fought all the way to the center of Song Jun. At this time, Zhang Shijie saw that the tide was gone, dispatched a good soldier, and led more than ten ships with Su Liuyi in advance, cut off the big cable and broke away. The dragon boat in Zhao Min is luxurious and huge in the army. When Lu Xiufu, 44, saw that he could not break through, he first drove his wife and son into the sea, and then declared his righteousness to Zhao Min, who was scared to tears. Then Lu Xiufu jumped into the sea with 8-year-old Zhao Min on his back. Many ministers and ministers also committed suicide by jumping into the sea. This day is 19 in March of Gregorian calendar. Soon, Zhang Shijie drowned in the gale and heavy rain at the foot of Pingzhang Mountain (about on the sea near Hailing Island in the southwest of Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province).

Wen Tianxiang, who was captured in Haifeng earlier, happened to be detained on the ship of the Yuan Army and witnessed the tragedy of Song Jun's crushing defeat and Zhao Min's jumping into the sea.
