Why build the Great Hall of the People in Chongqing?

Chongqing People's Auditorium: At the beginning of the founding of New China, in order to express the determination of the new people's regime to lead the people to glory, set off the climax of "building the Southwest" and solve the practical problems of conference reception, Deng Xiaoping, He Long and Liu Bocheng, the main leaders of the Southwest Military and Political Committee, resolutely decided to build a new auditorium with a capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 people on Maanshan opposite the office building of the Southwest Military and Political Committee, with additional guests.

The design of Chongqing People's Hall imitates the court form of Ming and Qing Dynasties, adopts the traditional axisymmetrical technique, with symmetrical structure, strong contrast, rigorous layout and simplicity. Jinding, the main part of the vault, was born out of the royal vault of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, imitating the Temple of Heaven, with the meaning of praying for "national prosperity and people's safety"; The cylindrical watchtower in the middle is the epitome of Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The north and south wings are inlaid with towers similar to the four corners of the Forbidden City in Beijing; Large courtyard, the front steps are wide and flat, with six steps.

1955 Southwest China was cancelled. 1956, the auditorium of Southwest Administrative Committee was renamed Chongqing People's Auditorium. 1989, the East Building built according to the standards of high-star hotels was completed, and the construction area of the auditorium increased from 18500 square meters in the 1950s to 32200 square meters.

From 65438 to 0997, Chongqing was directly under the central government. On the basis of public opinions, the municipal party committee and municipal government decided to dismantle the auditorium wall and build the People's Square, which will become the municipal, cultural and leisure square of Chongqing, and become an important tourist and reception place in Chongqing. Over the years, the auditorium has received more than 100 important party and state leaders and foreign dignitaries, which has been greatly appreciated. It was designed by Mr. Zhang Jia, who graduated from the engineering department of Nanjing University.
