Is there altitude sickness when traveling in Lhasa? What about altitude sickness?

Many friends want to go to Tibet to see the mysterious place here during the short holiday, and many friends are worried about altitude sickness. Will there be altitude sickness when traveling to Lhasa? How to alleviate altitude sickness?

Is there altitude sickness in Lhasa?

Lhasa, Tibet is 3650 meters above sea level, which is lower than other towns in Tibet.

Altitude sickness is actually a normal stress reaction when the human body encounters a strange plateau environment.

Generally speaking, people who live in the plain all the year round quickly enter the plateau area above 3000 meters above sea level, and there is a 50%~75% chance of altitude sickness.

Therefore, when tourists travel in Lhasa, some tourists may have altitude sickness, while others may feel nothing.

Altitude sickness can be divided into acute altitude sickness and chronic altitude sickness. The symptoms of the two kinds of altitude sickness are different in severity, while the symptoms of chronic altitude sickness are mild. Generally manifested as headache, tinnitus, shortness of breath, general weakness, insomnia and other symptoms. It usually takes a day off to recover.

Severe altitude sickness includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, palpitation and cyanosis. If you have the same severe symptoms of altitude sickness, I suggest you stay in Lhasa Oxygen Hotel for a day or two and have a rest. During altitude sickness, don't go to areas with too high altitude to play and visit.

Altitude sickness is also very serious. Some tourists are in poor health, accompanied by symptoms such as high blood pressure and heart disease, or travel to Tibet during a cold. If they don't pay attention, it is likely to cause brain edema or pulmonary edema, which will lead to shock and even life-threatening.

Tourists in poor health must be treated with caution and consider whether to enter Tibet on the premise of ensuring their own safety.

If tourists feel unwell in Tibet, such as inexplicable palpitation and chills, they must go to the local hospital for examination in time. If they find the situation serious, they must return to the low altitude area immediately.

Second, the regularity of altitude sickness

Tourists may want to ask when altitude sickness usually occurs. Actually, it's hard to say this question, but according to my current findings, altitude sickness usually occurs at these times.

The first is tourists flying into Tibet. The speed of aircraft entering Tibet is faster, and some tourists' physical adaptability is slower. Some tourists will have altitude sickness after getting off the plane. This is not only the case for first-time visitors to Tibet, but also for tourists who have visited Tibet many times.

The second is that tourists don't have much reaction when they first arrive in Lhasa. Some tourists haven't reacted yet, and altitude sickness will be delayed for about 4 or 5 hours. After this difficult period, altitude sickness will gradually dissipate.

Some people think it is easier to go to Tibet by plane than by train. In fact, taking a train and flying may have a higher reaction, just because people's physical adaptability is different and there is no necessary connection with transportation.

Although the altitude of the trains entering Tibet is rising step by step, the long-distance altitude of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is between 4,000 meters and 5,000 meters, especially where tourists are most prone to high reaction when passing through Tanggula Mountain.

Third, measures to prevent or reduce altitude sickness.

Shuying wants to tell you that traveling to Tibet can't completely avoid altitude sickness. We can only minimize the symptoms of altitude sickness and alleviate the discomfort caused by altitude sickness.

After arriving in Lhasa, according to the severity of everyone's hyperreflexia, I decided to rest for a few days.

1. Take rhodiola one week before you travel to Tibet to enhance your body's resistance. Everyone has different effects after taking it.

The most important thing to travel to Tibet is to maintain a good mental state, treat altitude sickness with an optimistic attitude, and don't be too afraid of altitude sickness. This is also a good way to prevent altitude sickness.

On the first day in Lhasa, don't jump around just because you are uncomfortable after getting off the train or plane. In particular, tourists who have been delayed for a period of time and have high reflectivity should pay special attention. Just because there is no discomfort for the time being does not mean that there will be no high reflex after a few hours. Shu Ying suggested that after the first day in Lhasa, everyone should have a good rest in the hotel and adapt to the local plateau environment.

4. To travel to Tibet, it is suggested to visit from low altitude areas to high altitude areas. You can go to Linzhi first, then to Namco and Mount Everest to better adapt to altitude sickness. Visitors to high-altitude areas such as Mount Everest, Namco and Ali, remember to bring oxygen bottles. Once the body can't adapt to the anoxic environment, oxygen cylinders can temporarily relieve discomfort.

Fourth, the strategy of playing.

In addition, when traveling in Tibet, no matter where you go, it is recommended to take anti-altitude sickness drugs with you to prevent accidents.

The lowest average altitude in Tibet is Linzhi, which is about 3000 meters above sea level. The lowest altitude in some areas of Linzhi is less than 1000m, such as Medog and Xiachayu.

In Linzhi, there is almost no high opposition, because most areas will not exceed 3000 meters above sea level.

Some tourists have severe hyperreflexia. All my suggestions are that the first stop should be Linzhi. Although the altitude of Lhasa is not too high, tourists can't say that they don't have high reflectivity when they come to Lhasa, but there is a 95% chance that they won't have high reflectivity when they go to Linzhi.

On the first day, tourists will not be allowed to visit Namco and Everest base camp first. Usually go to Linzhi first, or stay in Lhasa for a day. After tourists recover, they will consider visiting Namco and Yanghu.
