Songkran Festival is the New Year of the Dai people, which is equivalent to the middle of April in the Gregorian calendar and generally lasts for 3 to 7 days.

The Water-Splashing Festival originated in Persia in the 5th century A.D., when it was called "throwing cold water on Hu Opera". After that, it was introduced from Persia to Myanmar, Thailand, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China and other places through India, and it was introduced to the Dai area in Yunnan, China with Buddhism from the end of12nd century to the beginning of13rd century. ..
After the Songkran Festival was introduced to the Dai people, Xishuangbanna and Dehong areas called it "Shang Han" and "Shang Jian".
