Pour boiling or cold water over dry ice?

Dry ice cannot be poured with boiling water or cold water. It must be placed in cold or ice water.

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide with a very low temperature, about minus 78.5 degrees Celsius. When dry ice is put into warm water, due to the huge temperature difference and heat conduction, the dry ice will quickly sublimate into carbon dioxide gas and escape from the hot water. This sublimation process produces large amounts of CO2 gas accompanied by intense steam formation. When using dry ice, be sure to avoid pouring it directly into boiling water or letting it cool before adding it. You should choose to place dry ice in a container and add a sufficient amount of cold or ice water.
