Restoration and Formation of Landscape —— Renovation of Zhongshan Hot Spring Business District?

In the eyes of most designers, the renovation project is thankless, the site is complex, there are many constraints, and the construction is complicated. Maybe, it will be thankless and self-defeating. Therefore, it often becomes the chicken ribs of designers. However, the renovation project is full of charm because of its inherent sense of history and rich landscape. This paper is a true record of a small decoration project, hoping to provide some interesting ideas for how to do a good job in a decoration project. 1 The historic hotel Zhongshan Hot Spring Hotel is located in sanxiang town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. It was invested and built by the late Hong Kong businessman Mr. Fok Yingdong in the early 1980s. It is the earliest garden-style star hotel in China. Since the hotel was built in 1980, many national leaders, such as Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin, have personally visited the hotel and written inscriptions. This is the reason why Deng Xiaoping, the reform instructor, never looked back. This renovation project is an independent small garden in the hotel. It is hoped that the existing building rooms and external environment will be transformed to form a comprehensive business circle that can independently receive hot springs, rooms, restaurants and conferences. Looking for decadent spirit, the business circle is facing the hotel gate, and behind the towering old trees and flowers outside the park is the famous Luosanmei Mountain. The environment outside is beautiful. As soon as I entered the door, I saw a garden that was in disrepair. Several old-fashioned two-story buildings surround a dry swimming pool in the center. The swimming pool twisted into an irregular curve and collapsed feebly in the middle of the yard. The surrounding bushes are malnourished everywhere. Only clusters of red azaleas climbed the golden roof and bloomed in the afternoon sun, as if telling the past. Although the garden was dilapidated, I decided to keep this nostalgic seclusion from the beginning. Grasping the on-site spirit of decoration projects often becomes one of the content fulcrums of subsequent decoration. 3 Analysis of the manifestations of Lingnan architecture in different periods There are 9 buildings with one or two floors in the park (see figure 1), which shows that they were built by stages in different periods. They have different shapes and expressions, and they are a little close. Reforming them is a bit like reconciling family conflicts. Observe each other's expressions patiently before mediation. Buildings 4, 5 and 6 are surrounded by a small inner courtyard, which is an early Lingnan building (see Figure 2). There is a small tower with a stone wall and a golden glazed tile roof. Although we can see traces of transformation in different periods, it is still the most complete building complex in the park. The small inner courtyard surrounded by them was cut off by a walled corridor, and the internal and external space lacked communication, and the expression was a bit closed. The first floor of Building 4 is the guest room, which is the most comfortable place near the water, but there are flower beds between the guest room and the swimming pool, which seems a bit awkward. I thought at that time, how beautiful it would be if I opened the door from the guest room and jumped directly into the water! (Later, it turns out that this feeling is correct. ) Generally speaking, Buildings 4, 5 and 6 have positive features, which are opposite to the central garden. The completion time of Building 2 is obviously later than that of Building 4 (see Figure 3), and the rigid floor of the building facade is closed. The garden in front of the window has also become a corner that nobody cares about. Building 2 is like an old man with his back to the other side, turning a blind eye to buildings 4 and 5 on the other side. It takes a lot of work in architecture to get him to have a relationship with the central garden. The corridor of No.9 is a surprise for the rigidity of No.2. The two-story corridor extends briskly to the water surface between No.2 and No.3, which is the most agile of all buildings. Unfortunately, the original swimming pool didn't respond well and missed the opportunity to talk to the building. As a very important enclosing boundary of the central courtyard, Building No.2 has an implicit post-feature. Building 7 is located far from the center and is the intersection of the swimming pool area and the hot spring area behind it. The grass and old carambola trees in front of the building make Building 7 inclusive. Above, we have carefully analyzed the architectural characteristics of the closed inner courtyard space, which will be related to how the building appears in a way that conforms to its own direction in the later transformation, and restore the original harmonious and quiet atmosphere of this site. If the boundary of the closed space is solved, the blending of the landscape will naturally be completed. In order to have a more comprehensive understanding of the site, let's look at several locations, which played a good role in setting off the main body of the center in the later transformation. 4. Determine the principle of transformation. The restoration of the landscape was completed in full cooperation with the architect. After sufficient site analysis and exchange, we have come to the following transformation principles: (1) The whole park will continue to transform the original Lingnan garden style and maintain the continuity of the context; (This is very important, avoiding the invasion of copying the Bali frenzy at that time) (2) Retaining the existing garden-like layout of the building, only transforming the facade and internal functions, without re-demolition; (3) All the trees in the park are reserved, and shrubs can be transformed and trees can be planted; (4) The main materials of the garden are cyan and gray, which are in harmony with the tone of the context background; Under the guidance of the above principles, we reconstructed and restored the expression of the building, and made a specific design: (1) We built a new swimming pool in the middle of the courtyard, which is no longer indifferent to the surrounding houses, but changes according to the characteristics of the enclosed buildings, just like a pair of hands gently connecting the surrounding buildings together, or like a building changing its silence and holding them together through the swimming pool, so the building has a pleasant conversation. The enthusiasm of Building 4 has been released. As I thought at first, the wooden platform extends from the room to the swimming pool, which makes people feel the urge to dive. (See Figure 4 ~ 5) (2) The inner courtyard next to Building No.4 has also been opened, turning No.6 into a coffee shop providing Chi Pan services. The open inner courtyard forms a small sunshade square next to the swimming pool for people to rest. (See Figure 6) (3) The first floor of Building No.2 opens the door facing the outside to establish the back garden, and the balcony is built on the second floor to let residents come out indoors and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the courtyard. In order not to let the passing guests affect the line of sight of the room, all the passing roads are sunk, and the swimming pool just forms an unbounded water drop, so we can talk to Building 2! (See Figure 4 ~ 5) (4) Building 7 was transformed into a restaurant and coffee room, and the old carambola preserved on the grass became the best refuge, providing a comfortable shade for people to rest in the afternoon. Even the old rubble removed from the renovation was not wasted, and it became a stepping stone for people to walk on the grass and continue to serve the yard. Clusters of lotus, magnolia and purple magnolia have been replanted on the grass and are in full bloom in the light rain in spring. Corridor 9 is the most agile swimming pool in the building. Here, a small semi-circular platform is also gently given up. The corridor is like a light frame on the water, just like echoing each other. On the other side is Building 4. (See Figure 8)6 After the landscape restoration and transformation, the garden retains the community state of the buildings in the original Lingnan garden, and the courtyard is well connected with the architectural space and use function with its rich space, forming a unified and dynamic overall form. The quiet spirit in the original courtyard is preserved, and the old and new trees are intimately blended together, emitting brand-new vitality (see Figure 7~ 10). In the transformation of Zhongshan Business Park, we explore a way of thinking from the spirit of place, which involves two concepts of landscape restoration and generation: the original meaning of restoring fonts means: restoring objects to their original appearance before being destroyed. It is a process opposite to destruction, which usually describes the way things exist; Generation refers to the process of life from seed (or mother) to birth, growth, development and maturity, and it is a process from scratch. It describes the existence of life. But when we regard a landscape as living, it is not difficult to link the restoration of seemingly things with the generation of life. In other words, when we face a reform project, we are close to a life. When we have this understanding, we will put aside our self-expression and try our best to listen to the voice of the venue, see her expression, smell her fragrance, understand her thoughts and demands when we are in contact with a project. When this deep communication with the venue exists, the venue will tell you the state she wants and the return she longs for, and we can get enough hints from the communication to restore her. What we have built seems brand-new, but it has returned to the original point of landscape harmony. Everything we do is to restore the true colors. Starting from this idea, the transformation of the landscape can be completed in the following steps: (1) First observe the charm of the site; This is the first step to step into the site, positioning the surrounding environment (natural and artificial), cultural characteristics, climate feelings and other comprehensive factors, and discovering the most valuable spirit in the site as a spiritual guide for subsequent restoration. According to the positioning, the plants with reserved value in the site are classified to decide whether to stay or not in the process of the scheme. In principle, trees are generally considered to be preserved or transplanted; (2) judging the expression of the building; Reconstruction projects are generally inseparable from old buildings; We should be more cautious about architecture. If it is a building with a long history, it has high value from layout to architectural details, and it is best to keep it as it is. If the building has only a certain feature, it can be partially transformed according to the relationship between this feature and the transformed function; In the process of local renovation, we should carefully distinguish the expressions of various spaces and facades of buildings, so as to grasp the transformation methods and scales well in the process of generation, so that buildings can echo each other and have rich and harmonious expressions.
