The origin and history of Xianxian County are as follows:

Lecheng County was established in the Western Han Dynasty to govern the southeast of present-day Xianxian County, which was governed by Hejian State. It was renamed Leling County in the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms period, the Wei Dynasty was renamed Lecheng County. Jin changed its name to Lecheng County. In the 11th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (487), he moved to Xianxian County to govern. In the 18th year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (598), it was renamed Guangcheng County. In the first year of Renshou (601), it was renamed Leshou County and belonged to Hejian County. In the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Yingzhou and later to Shenzhou.

The Song Dynasty belonged to Hejian Prefecture. In the seventh year of Jin Tianhui (1129), Shouzhou was established in Leshou, and in the third year of Tiande (1151), Shouzhou was changed to Xianzhou.
