SOMA Garden Hotel

An ancient story, as the introduction to the adventure story of Serengeti.

April 2009

Serengeti in the Western Corridor

Night arrival. The Serengeti grassland at night is another world.

John and I were crouching in front of a flat tire, and there was nothing we could do. For two consecutive days, I went all the way from Masai Mara to Serengeti, 15 kilometers away from the hotel, and suffered the fifth puncture. There is no spare tire to change.

The biggest headache is that there are seven people sitting in the car. Everything went wrong along the way. First, the old driver Moses stopped eating his car on the first day; The man insisted on changing the itinerary and canceling the accommodation in Lake Victoria; The pickup truck in Tanzania did not appear on time at the time of customs clearance, and it has been lost so far; Banks in Musoma, a small town near Lake Victoria, lined up and wasted two hours recharging the national park ticket card. There are also complaints, urges and accusations all the way.

I stood up, knowing that there was no signal in this area, and habitually took out my mobile phone.

As soon as the window opened, the host asked in a muffled voice, "What's the matter? Another flat tire? ! "

I didn't explain. Yang Yang called and said, "No tire change!" There was a commotion in the car.

No signal. After a few steps, there is still no signal. Dark bushes look dangerous in the dark. As far as we know, the African prairie at night is really dangerous. John followed me anxiously, looking around. I said, "There is no signal. I must go further. " He was so worried that he almost cried.

I don't know how many times John was scolded by me along the way. He worked hard all the way. We have no rest these days. I said softly, "You go back to the car and try using the walkie-talkie. There may be other cars passing by. " At this time, knowing that there would be no vehicles passing by this road, I pretended to be in front of them in order to comfort a tortured family.

On the right is a dark mountain range. I know it's blocking the signal Beyond the mountain is a five-star hotel where we are staying tonight. Fifteen kilometers away from heaven, the rustling wind flooded the mysterious night in Serengeti grassland. I looked at my mobile phone while walking, and the light green fluorescence set off the surrounding night deeper. Creepy, trying to overcome the fear of being tackled by spotted hyenas or leopard lions hiding nearby, leaving the car for a long time.

Suddenly my feet are soft and dark.

A signal "suddenly" came out and disappeared. I turned around several times, finally saved this distress signal and dialed the phone number of the manager of Kenya travel agency. Go back to the car and tell all the desperate guests that the hotel car will pick us up in about half an hour.

In order to save the time of rescue, John and I decided to get off first and change the flat tire first. What is easy during the day becomes stumbling and slowing down in the dark. The arm holding a flashlight suddenly hurts, and the brain is persuasive! Shit! This area is a famous epidemic area of tsetse flies!

The tsetse fly is the "blood-sucking Hummer" in the insect world.

Flat body, huge wings and gray ugly guy, just like a small bomber! It's a big bag to dive! It hurts! The most terrible thing is to be infected with an endemic disease commonly known as sleeping sickness. I have long been ready to wear long-sleeved clothes, but my wrists, neck and shoulders are frequently attacked! The flashlight was unstable and John turned around. He didn't know there was a big guy with a big belly on his head. He asked, "What's the matter? ! "I patted him on the back of the head, and his hands were covered with blood! "Mining!" I answered in a dumb voice. It's my turn to cry.

John touched his head and squinted to wipe the sweat from his face: "Almost, almost!" "He bent down and continued to screw. I took the flashlight and tried my best to endure it. I heard those hateful guys swishing through the night, and even my back began to hurt! Their long beaks, armed to the teeth like steel needles, appear in front of them.

Far away, the life-saving headlights flashed faintly! At 9: 30 in the evening, we walked into the restaurant of the hotel. Take care of a family that finished eating two hours late, and try to cheer up and tell two children animal stories for a while. This is what we did after building trust from the second day of our trip. No matter how angry the adults are, the trust and admiration of the nine-year-old and seven-year-old brothers and sisters for the tour guide aunt are increasing.

In order to let them "see" the place where my animal story happened more clearly, I bought Jonathan's "Malaserengeti" album in the hotel in Masai Mara. My brother and sister pestered me and refused to sleep, so they threw themselves on a big photo album. Strangely, the experience along the way made every adult hoarse and exhausted, but the two little guys still talked and laughed. Scratched the bag bitten by mosquitoes on his forehead and neck, and dawdled: "What else? Tell me another one! Just one! "

Just for these two cute little guys, I said to myself, "Hang in there! No matter what bad travel agency, bad car, bad temper and abuse, you must bear it! "

I finally went back to my room. Serena Safari Lodge's beautiful single suite makes people instantly relax and feel the beauty of life. Standing in front of the mirror after taking a shower, I began to count the painful bags left by the tsetse flies one by one until eleven o'clock.

Suddenly collapsed and burst into tears.

I haven't shed tears for a long time. Really down and out.

Lying in bed with Jonathan's beautiful photo album in his hand. In the hazy sleep, you can also see the "swamp" lion family playing in front of you. That was my last story before dinner.
