A Study on the Origin of Mei Family in Feidong County, Anhui Province

Mei is a common surname, which is widely distributed, accounting for about 0. 10% of the Han population in China, ranking 136, especially in Yunnan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui, Henan and other provinces. The population of Mei in six provinces accounts for about 74% of the Han population in China.

There are three sources of Mei's family: one is from Zi's family, which is a descendant of Shang Tang. In Shang Dynasty, King Tai Ding of Shang Dynasty named his younger brother Yumei (now southeast of Bo County, Anhui Province) as an earl, who was called Meibo. When he arrived in Shang Zhouwang, Zhou Wang was dissolute and heartless. Mei Bo advised several times, but he wouldn't listen. Instead, he was deposed by Zhou Wang and then tortured to death (chopped to pieces). After Zhou Wuwang destroyed the Shang Dynasty, the descendants of Mei Bo were given a loyal title in Huangmei, and their descendants took the ancestral fief as their surname, called Mei.
