Yundingshan Ciyun Temple, this is a place that can bring you good luck!
"Simple clothes may be the city's treasure, but they are not the dust of the capital.
Leaping on the clouds, I want to fly to the immortals."
This person wrote " "Red hands, yellow vine wine, and willows on the palace walls all over the city." The passionate poet Lu You climbed to Yunding Mountain with a longing for the fairyland-like scenery.
We followed in the footsteps of our ancestors and came to this legendary place excitedly!
Can we also see Buddha or Arhat walking in front of us like that uncle? Can we, like the old monk, encounter a beautiful vixen unexpectedly? Is Qifofang really that magical?
Two days ago, we introduced various legends about Ciyun Temple in Yunding Mountain and the stories of emperors Tang Minghuang, Liu Bei, and Liu Chan who came here successively, as well as Master An Shigao, who was reincarnated by the prince of ancient Iran. How he came here to practice Buddhism, and the story of the inheritance of Buddhist culture between him and our Shu emperors Liu Bei and Liu Chan.
Today we are also following the footsteps of the saints, soaking up the fairy spirit here, and experiencing the strong Buddhist culture and unique Buddhist architectural culture here.
In our description yesterday, we learned the meanings of peonies and chrysanthemums respectively. I learned about the uniqueness of the four carved dragon-carrying pillars in the Main Hall, and also mentioned the squatting beasts that existed on the roof beams to protect the hall.
All Buddhist temples have squatting beasts. They are placed in different places and play different roles.
Squatting beasts are also called immortal walking beasts, walking beasts, vertical-ridged beasts, ridge-backed beasts, etc. They are the tiles or tiles at the front end of the ridges on the roofs of verandahs and tops of Xieshan buildings in ancient Chinese palaces and temples. Liuli’s little beast.
The number of tile beasts is related to the level of the palace. The frontmost of the squatting beasts is the immortal riding a chicken. Usually, not including the immortal riding a chicken, the number of squatting beasts is an odd number, up to 9, and each beast has its own name.
Only in the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City, a line is added after the bullfighting beast, indicating the high level of specification, as many as 11!
As long as everyone pays attention, they can be found in temples and palaces that have been built for a long time. Now you know why there are such little animals on the eaves and stone pillars.
In addition to Master An Shigao, who is as famous as Patriarch Bodhidharma, Ciyun Temple also has an outstanding person: the highly respected master - Master Shi Pukong, the current abbot of Ciyun Temple!
This famous Buddhist monk, who was born in 1953, is the only Buddhist monk in China who is proficient in the teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and has received the precepts of the three religions.
What are the three precepts? They are "greed, anger, and ignorance" in Buddhism. Greed refers to being too paranoid about sound, color, taste, etc. Buddhism believes that "greed" is the enemy of Buddhist practice and the root of all troubles; anger refers to being too paranoid about enmity, resentment, and hatred; ignorance is the root A greedy or angry reaction caused by ignorance of the truth. Precepts, concentration, and wisdom are the methods to cure greed, anger, and ignorance.
Master Shi Pukong once traveled to Singapore, Myanmar and other places to promote Buddhism. Moreover, Master Shi Pukong also became a monk at Ciyun Temple in Yunding. After returning from abroad, he has been practicing Buddhism in Ciyun Temple. Because the Master understands numerology and Feng Shui, celebrities from all walks of life often come to Ciyun Temple. If we walk around Ciyun Temple, we might even meet celebrities who come to pay homage to Master Shi Pukong!
The Arhat Hall of Ciyun Temple is also quite large. Generally, large temples will have an Arhat Hall. The so-called Arhats are people who have achieved certain achievements in practice but still need to continue practicing. There are also ordinary people like us among them. The status of Arhat is second only to Bodhisattva. Therefore, as long as we work hard, we can cultivate to the Arhat status.
The stele pavilion of Ciyun Temple is also very famous. There are four relatively important steles among them, they are the "Stele of the Bodhisattva Precepts Sutra", "The Paramita Heart Sutra", the "Stele of the Reconstruction of Tiangong Zen Temple" in the Ming Dynasty, and the "Stele of Biographies of Eminent Monks of Ciyun Temple" in the Qing Dynasty. There are no patterns on the four sides of the stele. The inscription is simple and smooth, the font is dignified and beautiful, and the inscription is well preserved.
The Seven Buddhas Square was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and was made of stone.
It has four pillars and a three-story gatehouse style building. The decorations on both sides are: reliefs, openwork sculptures, round sculptures of Buddha, flowers, birds, animals, palaces, and various decorative patterns. It is the most complete existing stone monument in western Sichuan and has high cultural and artistic value.
There is another most magical place in Qifofang, which is the birdcage. There is a whole stone hollow birdcage that can be moved around freely. What's incredible is that there are no bird nests or guano in the place where the birds hang out, so it is also called the "dust-free house".
In addition, there are two Thoreau trees in the temple, known as the famous living fossils. They are intertwined with each other like reluctant lovers. Therefore, if lovers put their hands together and worship in front of this Thoreau tree, it will help you realize your wish, and make the lovers more loving and never separated.
What is particularly worth mentioning here is that behind the Main Hall of Ciyun Temple, there are two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees rising from the ground. The trunks are thick and they are truly towering trees. These two ginkgo trees were planted in the Southern Song Dynasty and have a history of nearly a thousand years. One plant is female, one is male, one male and one female. The yin and yang are coordinated and absorb the essence of the earth, so they are very spiritual. If a couple comes to worship, it will definitely bless the couple to be more loving and grow old together. Moreover, everyone who comes to worship will have better luck than before when they return!
In Tianshi Cave in Qingcheng Mountain, dozens of kilometers away from Ciyun Temple in Yunding Mountain, there is a towering ancient ginkgo tree that is 2,500 years old. There is a ginkgo tree planted by Zhang Song during the Three Kingdoms period on the Dujiangyan Weir Gong Road. , around 1800, this ginkgo tree in Ciyun Temple is ranked third in terms of age.
It is suitable for visiting all year round.
In spring, peach blossoms bloom all over the mountains and plains, presenting a pink world, which is as intoxicating as a fairy tale kingdom and makes people linger, as if they have walked into the peach blossom garden written by Tao Yuanming, romantic and fragrant.
In summer, the wind blowing from the Tuojiang River makes it very cool and suitable for summer vacation. In autumn, those grasses, trees, and the mature red color make you feel the joy of growing up in life! It makes you feel that this kind of red is the most brilliant reflection of life!
In winter, the river breeze is blowing, the mountain breeze is gentle, and the earth is quiet for a moment. In this quietness, the sound of morning bells and evening drums comes, allowing you to listen to the Dharma and purify your soul!
In Chengdu, if you have two days, you can take a bus here. At night, you can stay in the European-style town at the foot of Yunding Mountain - Koma Town, where you can taste local food and go for a walk along the Tuojiang River.
There are two routes for self-driving tours. One can start from Chengdu, exit the Third Ring Road and get off at the Longtan Interchange, and take the Jin (Tang) Qing (Baijiang) Expressway. After arriving at Jintang, head towards Huaikou. It takes about 30 minutes to drive along the Tuojiang River to the Yundingshan intersection. Small cars can drive directly up there, but large cars cannot. If you want to climb a mountain, park your car at Yunding Shicheng and just walk up. But it’s hard work.
Another route is along the Chengnan Expressway, get off at Huaikou, pass through the small town of Koma, and walk toward Jintang. You will reach the Yundingshan intersection in about 10 minutes, and you can just drive up there.
If you take the bus, you can take the shuttle bus from Chengbei Passenger Transport Center or Jinsha Station to Jintang, and then transfer to the special bus at Yundingshan. But it's more troublesome.
It is very convenient to take the bus directly to Huaikou from Chengdu East Railway Station. It is very convenient to take the bus from Huaikou to Yunding Mountain. You can take an electric tricycle at Huaikou Station.
For three consecutive days, we have been telling stories about Ciyun Temple. When visiting Buddhist temples, you must have a sincere heart to worship Buddha. You will gain a lot. If you go there with a tourist mentality, it will be disrespectful to Buddhist culture and will not be welcomed by real practitioners.
Buddhist culture teaches us to be compassionate and not to strive for fame or gain.
