East Lake Scenic Area, located in the east of Wuchang District, Wuhan, is one of the first national scenic spots named by the State Council. Its lake area is about 33 square kilometers, which is six times that of Hangzhou West Lake. Its shore is very tortuous, and it is known as ninety-nine bays. We can see that the lake surface of East Lake is so vast and the scenery is so beautiful. Do you know how the East Lake was formed?

In fact, East Lake is adjacent to the Yangtze River and communicates with the Yangtze River through Qingshan Port. Between the rivers and lakes is a long highland alluvial plain around the lake for more than ten kilometers, and a relatively low depression is formed in the dike. Whenever the water level of the Yangtze River is higher than the water level in flood season, the water in the upper reaches of the depression can't flow out, so the accumulated water in the depression forms the present East Lake.

Have you noticed these trees here? This is Metasequoia glyptostroboides, an ancient plant in the Quaternary Ice Age, known as a living fossil. Three million years ago, they were widely distributed in all parts of the northern hemisphere. It was once considered extinct by botanists all over the world, but in 1945, I visited forestry workers and found Metasequoia glyptostroboides forest area in Lichuan City, Hubei Province, which became a sensational news. In order to commemorate the first discovery of this ancient tree species in Hubei Province, Wuhan decided to designate Metasequoia glyptostroboides as the city tree, symbolizing the heroic Wuhan people's fortitude and firmness.

Ok, continue eastward, and we will arrive at Tingtaoxuan. There are many bamboos and pine trees planted around Tingtaoxuan. On the stone slope near the lake, you can see the bluestone slope with the word "Songpo" inscribed by Dongpo layman. There are several verdant Jinsong trees standing on the steep rock embankment above the slate, which adds a bit of charm to the scenery here. We can see that the other side of Tingtaoxuan is Yunshui Town.

Come on, let's walk across the Lotus Wind Bridge. Now we see this pavilion with three green tiles and columns. This is the center of Tingtao tourist area-Yin Hang Pavilion. It was built in memory of Qu Yuan, a famous patriotic poet in the Warring States Period. Speaking of Qu Yuan, I think everyone will be familiar with him. He is one of the four famous cultural figures in the world, a Chu nationality in the Warring States Period. At that time, he was trusted by Chu Huaiwang, so he often put forward some strategies for governing the country to Chu Huaiwang, and implemented the policy of "invigorating talents and empowering the people" at home and the strategy of "uniting with Qin" at abroad. Because of his correct policy, Chu was once strong. But then Qu Yuan was pushed out by the villains and exiled to Jiangbei. King Xiang of Chu was exiled to Jiangnan after he succeeded to the throne. In 278 BC, the state of Qin invaded the capital of Chu, and Qu Yuan, who had been in exile in Jiangnan for 20 years, watched his country perish. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he threw himself into the Miluo River in Hunan. People kept a Dragon Boat Festival with strong national characteristics in memory of Qu Yuan, but now the people of Wuhan have specially built this pavilion for him in memory of this great poet. Yongting Pavilion is a reinforced concrete imitation wood structure. There is a portrait of Qu Yuan and a brief introduction to his life in Yin Hang Pavilion, and some of his works are also displayed. Look at the statue in front of the Yin Hang Pavilion. It is 6.8 meters high. The statue shows Qu Yuan's high head and his desire to walk, revealing the poet's sadness and depression after he was exiled. The name "Yin Hangting" comes from "Qu Yuan was released, swimming in Hechi and walking on the river bank."

Ok, let's move forward with me. We have just visited the Bank of Yin Hang with the Yin Hang Pavilion as the center. What we see here is one of the twenty-four scenic spots of East Lake, "water and sky are one color". It is mainly a scenic spot centered on the Sky Tower. What we see here is fish watching in Bitan, which is a group of buildings with national characteristics. You can see that the small bridge here is very complicated. It is said that it is called nine bends and eighteen bends. We also know that East Lake is mainly famous for its abundance of freshwater fish, of which Wuchang fish is the most precious. Although it is only a small fish, there are many allusions on it. During the Three Kingdoms period, the King of Wu wanted to move the capital from Jianye to Wuchang, which is now Ezhou. One of his ministers, Lu Kai, wrote to discourage him, saying that he would rather drink Jianye water than Wuchang fish. Later, Ma Zuchang of the Yuan Dynasty also wrote a poem "Don't forget Wuchang fish in the southern tour", which shows that Wuchang fish's reputation has spread for a long time. Also, our Chairman Mao has a special liking for "the hometown of white clouds and yellow cranes-Wuhan". After liberation, Chairman Mao often went to Wuhan, and most of them lived in the East Lake Scenic Area. He had eaten Wuchang fish in Tingtao restaurant. 1956 also left a famous sentence "only drink Changsha water and eat Wuchang fish". So it can be said that it is a great pity that everyone didn't eat Wuchang fish when they came to Wuhan!

Ladies and gentlemen, we walked on, and the tower of the sky came into view. This is a palace-style building that retains the national characteristics of China. Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou and other revolutionaries of the older generation have stayed here many times to receive international friends. Standing on the sky tower, we look into the distance, and the blue waves are boundless. Will you also have the sigh of "autumn waters grow together"? In fact, that's how the name of the Sky Tower came from.

On the right of the sky tower is Luxun Square. Lu Xun's bust is particularly solemn under the shadow of pine and cypress, which unconsciously makes people feel a kind of respect. I wonder if you have noticed that the Yin Hang Pavilion we just visited is in the south of Tingtao Scenic Area, and this Luxun Square is in the north of Tingtao Scenic Area. One is to commemorate the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan, and the other is to commemorate the pioneer of the New Culture Movement. The north and the south echo each other from afar, which can be described as a perfect match.
