In January 2015, the Beijing Winter Olympics Bid Committee and the Almaty Winter Olympics Bid Committee submitted their bid reports for the 2022 Winter Olympics to the International Olympic Committee.

At 17:57 on July 31, 2015, the 128th Plenary Session of the International Olympic Committee was held in Kuala Lumpur, voting to select the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics. After 85 International Olympic Committee members voted In the vote, Beijing defeated its opponent Almaty 44-40 and won the right to host the 24th Winter Olympics in 2022.
